About this listen

"A winner: tense and terrifying with a twist you’ll never see coming. You won’t soon forget these characters and the shocking ways their lives intersect." -- Laura Dave, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Thing He Told Me

Every marriage has its secrets….

Skyla lives alone in the shadow of the defunct drive-in movie theater that she and her husband ran for nearly fifty years. Ever since Hollis’s death in a freak accident the year before, Skyla spends her nights ruminating about the regrets and deceptions in her long marriage. That is, until she rents a cottage on the property to a charming British man, Teddy Cornwell….

A thousand miles away, Linelle is about to turn fifty. Bored by her spouse and fired from her job when a questionable photo from her youth surfaces on social media, her only source of joy is an on-line affair with her very first love, a man she’s not seen in nearly thirty years, Teddy Cornwell…

While in New York City, Jeremy, a failed and bitter writer, accepts an assignment to review a new restaurant in Providence. Years ago, Providence was the site of his first great love and first great heartbreak—and maybe, just maybe, he’ll look her up when he’s back in town…

Part page-turning thriller, part homage to film noir, and dazzling in its insight into the often desperate desires of the human heart, Her Last Affair is a tense and atmospheric novel of love lost and found again.

My first book to read by John Searles. I'd give him another try. This was a bit grittier in tone than my usual reads. I thought the plot was convoluted at times but still it held my interest. This book is about what happens when one revisits the past. Can you go back and be the person you were? For some it could be worth the effort, for others not so much.

A gritty suspense

Three main characters in this story weave their way through love, loss and revenge in a very unique way. This story will keep you intrigued until the very end when the pieces of the characters story finally come together.

Spine tingling thriller

Most characters are just fine but Jane's attempt at an English advent is a crime. Who let this go out?

The worst English advent I've ever heard

Stick with it. Lots of twists and turns you don’t expect. Some good life lessons which I have pondered regularly since.

Starts off slow but…

Interesting storyline. The narrator was excellent. Though the two main characters were fully fleshed out, I didn't really care about either of them. That made it difficult to hang on to the end.

Interesting twists will keep you engaged

At first the multiple storylines seemed so unrelated, interesting on their own but I couldn’t get where anything would intersect. Of course that made it even more intriguing. Character development is probably one of the best I’ve listened to. As it all did come crashing together it felt like I knew each of the characters intimately. Loved this story.

Narration was really great but the English accent really was a detriment. I tried to ignore it but it did take away instead of adding such a significant piece!!

Loved It!

The narration was really good or I may not have finished it. Well written but just not the best book for me.

Not sure

I enjoyed the story itself and I really enjoyed the narration. The narrator’s voice kept me “in” the story.

Enjoyed this book.

Lots of twists and turns to this thriller…and some laugh out loud moments too. Finished it in a day and a half! And the narrator was one of the best I’ve ever listened to as well. Worth the listen!

Terrific

Three people looking for love and how their seemingly separate lives come together in a shocking thriller.

One listener complained about the narrator’s bad British accent but without giving anything away to future listeners, it’s not supposed to be perfect and in my opinion was spot on for this story. The other characters were well done too.

This novel kept me interested and wondering what would happen next.

A love story and thriller rolled into one
