Publisher's summary

The line between truth and deception is as thin as a razor’s edge…

Determined to enjoy the pace of small-town life, lawyer Sam Johnstone has left his painful past behind and looks forward to taking each new day as it comes. Yet just as he sees peace and tranquility on the horizon, a close friend is charged with murder. Unable to stand quietly by, Sam quickly signs on for the defense.

But how can he defend a client who has already confessed to the crime?

Further complicating matters, an ethically challenged prosecutor with an ax to grind seems embarked on a personal crusade against Sam. Now, in a case that seems doomed from the start, Sam must risk his reputation, his livelihood, and more to help a friend in need. But how far is he willing to go to uncover the shocking truth?

The ending was over the top!! Loved every part of this amazing f drama. I am hooked on James Chandler's writing.

This book along with book 1, 2, and 3 was sensational. I can't wait until book 5 of this series comes out. Truly wonderful. I could not keep from listening to it at every opportunity. Thank you for a job well done.

Ok.

Interesting, except as much as I like good legal thrillers, mysteries, police procedurals, and I do understand that the back and forth arguments in trials is just the way it works, I felt that it just got to be a bit much in the trial description of the judge. Overall, it's not my favorite book in this series, however, good ending, and excellent narration!

Engrossing plot, but

Less and less about Sam, the person, and his life now. He is one of the cast of characters, all interesting but if you have not read the first few books, it’s no longer matters.

Great Story!

Love the baring of our “justice” system and the win/lose story. Fun ending!! I love this series - does not disappoint.

Left us hanging … argh!

Another excellent story with sub stories that twist and turn at unexpected speeds. Book 6, 7, 8 ……???

Entertaining but some holes in plot

I found the narrator a bit irritating with his staccato delivery. The story moved along well enough but if I can’t conceive of the jury’s verdict based on the evidence presented. It didn’t make sense to me.
