Publisher's summary

The White Lich has fallen.

The remnants of his army have fled into the forests. It should be a time of celebration. But as Dante regroups his people, the Angel of Taim arrives with a message.

They may have defeated the lich, but Taim is still going to destroy the mortal world of Rale.

Facing starvation in the dead of winter, Dante leads his people toward the abundant fields of Gallador Rift. Along the way, though, a horrifying illness breaks out among the travelers. As earthquakes rattle the land and volcanic eruptions black out the sky, it becomes clear that the plague was only the first attack launched against Rale. Their only hope is to travel back to the Realm of the Gods and try to bargain with them - and if that fails, to wage war on them. But the only known doorway to the Realm is hundreds of miles away. In the throes of collapse, flooded with monsters from hell’s darkest depths, the entire world might be torn apart before Dante and Blays have the chance to start fighting back.

A middle-series book that moves the plot forward

This was a great book. Not quite as interesting as his other works, but a solid middle-series book.

Reading is spectacular as always.

Awesome story as always!

I have been an Edward W. Robertson since I started reading his books - beginning with the Cycle of Arawn - but I think after this book, he's officially one of my favorite writers of all time. I expected that the series might eventually turn for the worse, but it never has and it just gets better and better.

And, Tim Gerard Reynolds does - as always - a phenomenal job as the narrator.

Awesome addition

Wow I love these books, and this one joins the club. I was hoping dante was going to learn new ways to sling the shadows but it was still an awesome time. The fallen each had an interesting personality and even more interesting cultures that spring around them.

I hate/love the handful of potential side quests/spin-offs that get dropped, I want more books of everything in this world dammit.

The worst part of the book is the last hour being a preview of the scour book, only because I hadn’t mentally prepared myself for the book to be over.

A++ I need more

Ignore the negative reviews

I read some of the negative reviews. For those who have read the entire series, this is the final book, but a new series starts where this book leaves off, so this book is essential and entertaining.

More literary gold.

Each book has just cemented me deeper to this story. I can't wait to start the next one.

Great continuation!

This series is absolutely brilliant! This book should have continued and been the end or continued with a challenge of how to get the portals open again. suspense and waiting for the next adventure is great! Trying to continue a series by stretching it out really sucks. It might not of felt this way if you finished the portals. But none the less a great continuation of blaze, Dante, and Gladdick! plus the amazing voicing by Reynolds!

Dante and blaze are like brothers I have always wanted!

Let me start with TGR is the best not to say that other narrators aren’t good I have lots of other favorites but there’s just something about the way he tells a story that makes me believe that he is the one telling it. Then we can go onto the fact it from the first trilogy to this now epic that’s going on Dante in blaze I like tender disorders to me I followed them for so long. I’ve even got my mother reading the books. She started off listening. But she can see where as I cannot and really likes to read. I’m going to have to try to get this series in some sort of a special addition for her. She doesn’t need a special edition but I do because it’s my mom.
