About this listen

A commander who bled to defend her people, Ahnna is haunted by two beliefs. The first is that she failed to protect Ithicana from invasion. And the second is that saving her homeland means leaving it behind forever.

The Maridrinians left Ithicana in ruins and its people impoverished. So when the wealthy kingdom of Harendell claims her as a bride for its crown prince, Ahnna is prepared to do whatever it takes to gain influence as the future queen. And to control the gold that comes with the throne.

Yet Ahnna swiftly discovers that beneath the beautiful surface of Harendell’s court is a dark underbelly built upon schemes, duplicity, and the pursuit of power. The only individual who holds himself above the politics is not her future husband, but his infuriating half brother, James. And as she begins to question whether Harendell is the ally it claims to be, Ahnna finds herself drawn into a forbidden attraction to the wrong prince.

As deadly plots tighten around her, Ahnna must decide whether saving her people will be achieved as a bride ... or as a blade.

Ahnna is relatable AF

I love this entire series so so sooo much. Although this one had less war and battle scenes than some of the previous duets, I can already tell there’s something BIG coming in the final book.

Ahnna is heartbreakingly relatable. She seems to be like a lot of us who want to “save the world” but their words and actions don’t necessarily portray their true, good hearted intentions and then they end up in a sticky situation. Hearing Ahnna’s perspective on her parents and grandmother was also amazing to hear because it’s a very different tone than when we hear/heard Aren speak of them. Which just makes it all the more relatable!

James is a sweet boy that deserves to be protected at all costs. I’m so excited for the second half of their story.

Characters

While this was my least favorite of the bridge kingdom series, it was still an amazing story!

I love this series

They should do a recap of the other books because even though I read them all, I forgot a lot of details and was kinda confused. Still, I can’t wait for the next book and am going to go back and listen from book one.

Plot twists and political intrigue at its finest

This must be the fastest paced book in The Bridge Kingdom series, with as many plot twists as there could be. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Ahnna better, even if at some points, I’ve found her too naive (I believe Lara will remain my favorite, as morally grey as she is). I’m so looking forward to reading the final book because the stakes are higher than ever.

political intrigue and heart

the narration is excellent. I had not enjoyed Anna's character much in past books but I really enjoyed getting her POV here. James is an excellent brooding hero. And there is an animal side-kick, which is pretty great.

Cliffhanger

I reread this series because it had been a while since I originally read Bridge Kingdom. I was so disappointed to find this to be a part 1. I know most of the series has been like this but I just hate loose ends. The story was good, full of intrigue that keeps you guessing. Whereas previous books have given the lead some big thing that had strife thrown in, poor Ahna has had nothing but strife thrown in on this one. I can’t wait to read the next installment…..someday.
