The story is great, but the narration could be better.

I really enjoyed this story and was looking forward to hearing it narrated. I was disappointed though. The narrator ends a lot her sentences like she is asking a question, meaning her voice goes a little higher at the end. You do this when you ask a question, not for every single sentence. Also, the narrator showed very little emotion when she was performing. I want to hear the excitement, the sadness.. it just wasn't there. She spoke pretty monotone.
The story is awesome, just not the narration. Sorry.

Not my favorite.

Overall it was good, but not for me. Not much more I can say, it just didn't draw me in enough.

One of my Michelle Madow favorites!

I have been struggling to find a vampire story I really enjoyed. They all tend to be fairly similar. I enjoyed this one from the start, especially with the narration. And then I started getting Aladdin hints (maybe that was just me) and I absolutely loved it. I really liked the way Patricia Santomasso portrayed Camelia. It made her really easy to distrust and even dislike. The pacing was great (I like to speed up the narration and I had no problem doing that with this book). I noticed immediately as I finished the narration that I needed the next book in the series (yes needed!) and that I wanted to continue it in audio. This series is definitely unlike anything I have read and I am eager to continue with the next book!

This book was great!!!

This book was exactly what I wanted and it had great characters and a love between a vampire and a girl similar to the shade books and I absolutely love that. I don’t like books that portray the character like the woman to be a hunter nd going after the vampires instead I like when their is possibility for love with adventures and excitement as well as twist and turns. I noticed that through this series the character seems to grow from a girl into a fierce woman who is not a weak character as some may ask because she is not afraid of being who she is and taking what she believes is what she needs or deserves but she also wants to become a vampire once she she’s that she has a choice because she is tired of others being physically overpowering which comes from the trauma of her family being murdered in front of her face and not being as strong as these immortal men so she sees an opportunity to change that and take back some of what was lost. I also thought the narrator did a great job and I had no issues with her whatsoever. Take a chance read this/ listen to it and see just how much you enjoy the story and if it’s everything you expected and like the book as much as I do then email the content department for audible to release more books from this series. I was happy that finally their was another vampire fantasy adventure romance book series with no killing butch woman it was exactly what I was looking for and I hope more audible customers enjoy this book series too:)

Vampires, Wolves, Witches, and More!

Would you try another book from Michelle Madow and/or Patricia Santomasso?

I definitely would read more from author Michelle Madow. The book flowed very well and was very enjoyable. I would not listen to another book narrated by Patricia Santomasso, because a lot of the voices that she made for the characters were annoying and took away from Madow's book. I will however be buying more books from this author.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really didn't have a favorite character in this book, I felt this book was more action based than character based. I think being the first book in the series, the author wanted to kind of set the story and in later books, she will hopefully give the characters more depth. So I can connect or really love just one character.

How could the performance have been better?

I think that for the male characters, there could have been a male narrator. Because all the male voices in the book sounded weird. Like the narrator was trying to hard to create a male voice. Also some of the voices were very annoying. There was 2 that stood out, a voice of a witch and a voice of a vampire queen (cringe worthy). I could have done without the headache. I really felt the narrator took away from the book.

Could you see The Vampire Wish being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I could see this made into a TV series, I think it would be good. I do not watch a lot of TV so I can't give you any actors that would play the parts. However, I think that if this was made into a TV series I would watch it! However, not before I had read all the books!!!

Any additional comments?

If you are a fan of Twilight, then you will like this book. There are several similarities to Twilight, wolves and vampires, a boundary/treaty with the wolves, an insta love romance between a human and a vampire. However, there are also a lot of original things that the author created. She created the Vale, (a magical place that the vampires are hidden), witches that have a history with the vampires, a kingdom of vampires, and so on... Although there are similarities, there are also enough differences to make Madow's story her own.

I enjoyed the Vale, the idea of a magical hidden vampire kingdom is wonderful. I do wish there would have been more world building in the story. The vampire's also kept blood slaves in the kingdom. That is where Annika, (the main character comes in), she is taken from all she knows and her family killed. She becomes a blood slave to the vampires. Annika, feels weak and wants to become a vampire herself to be strong and less vulnerable. Annika is different than other blood slaves for many reasons but I am not going to spoil it for you.

I didn't enjoy, the insta love in this book. I mean, I really get a little tired of "love at first sight" in young adult books. That said, author Madow didn't over do the insta love. Meaning, it wasn't kissy kissy face on every page. Annika as a character is strong, although she feels weak, and that is understandable reading what happened to her parents. I liked that about her character, She was determined. However, there were moments when I thought she was dumb. Danger was coming for her and she stopped, (what seemed like forever), to talk something out. Also she wants to become a vampire! I mean come on, why does every human in love with a vampire, want to become a vampire. I'm human and really would like to stay that way! Of course I'm also not a fictional character in a book, haha!

Overall, this book was enjoyable. I like vampires, witches, wolves, shape shifters, and I liked how the book flowed. So this book had a ton of things I like! It was a short audio book. I would rather have read this book in print than listened to it on audio. I liked a lot of parts in this story. I really think the book could have been longer and explained more history. Although this is a series book, so Madow didn't want to give it all away in the first book.

Review of the audio. My rating for the audio itself, 2 stars. This has nothing to do with the authors writing, only the narrator. The narrator made me cringe at moments with the voices of some of the characters. I know one characters voice was suppose to be annoying, but every time the narrator made that voice I was ready to stop the book. Overall, I didn't like the narrator and with the multiple voices of men and women, she was not good. I really felt this is the kind of audio, where you need a male narrator in the mix. It wasn't horribly narrated, it was just ok and annoying in moments. I was thankful it was a short audio. If it was any longer I would have bought the book to finish it myself instead of listen.

A new spin on vampires

Annika is enjoying a ski trip with her family when out of nowhere, her parents and brother are attacked and murdered and she is taken as a blood slave for the vampires. Jason has spent the last year attempting to come to terms with being a vampire, finally feeling like he has his bloodlust under control. When Jason sneaks out of the castle to test his control, he is drawn to Annika and her purity. The two feel a connection to each other, but they can never be together- her a blood slave with no future, him vampire royalty with his future planned out.

I really enjoyed the world that the author created, with Vampires, Werewolves, Witches and the Nephilim who hunt the evil supernatural races. This was my first book by Michelle so I am not sure if the world has already been established by her previous series or if it was just created for this journey. The interaction between vampires and all the other species was interesting and I will admit the idea of how the royalty is picked intruiged me. The promise of a vampire bachelor competition was a selling point for me, not going to lie.

The story did not have a ton of character development (or at least not as much as I was expecting) but it did have non-stop action and dangers- be it running from Vampires, dodging werewolves, or an impossible task that almost guaranties death. I did have a hard time with the romantic angle from Jason and Annika, I had no real idea why they liked each other so instantly (not a fan on insta-love, and I feel like that played a big part here). The action and adventure was great, but the relationships I was pretty iffy on.

The audio version was really well done, with the narrator creating strong distinct voices for both Annika and Jason. The third voice in the story was the (evil) witch Camilla and I didn't like her at all, but that may have been the intention of the narrator since she was a terrible selfish character.
