About this listen

Gifted pianist Valentine Windham, youngest son of the Duke of Moreland, has little interest in his father's obsession to see his sons married, and instead pours passion into his music. But when Val loses his music, he flees to the country, alone and tormented by what has been robbed from him.

Grieving Ellen Markham has hidden herself away, looking for safety in solitude. Her curious new neighbor offers a kindred lonely soul whose desperation is matched only by his desire, but Ellen's devastating secret could be the one thing that destroys them both.

Together, they'll find that there's no rescue from the past, but sometimes losing everything can help you find what you need most.

Contains mature themes.

Continuation of great story but…

The heroine is needy, cries, goes silent…and Val is forever coaxing her out of herself. It’s not believable. Unfortunately.

The heroine’s background story is also flimsy.

But alas it was the final brother to find love…

If you liked the first two, you may enjoy this, or you may feel let down.

loved it!! Awesome narration.

A very moving story plot.. and the characters are very engaging, though towards the ending I was getting very disappointed with the heroin, the author could have given here more guts. her character was kind of left wanting. otherwise it's a good read.

Excellence

This series is excellent & I enjoy the characters, they all are very real, & the narrator is excellent. If I had to come up with an area that could improve in the series it would be to make the leading female lead less drama or moody & not to drag out the endings so much . But that is all otherwise excellent!

Tired of all the sex......

I am no proud, and do enjoy 3 or 4 sexual encounters, but this story had so many of them(!), and it interrupted the storyline, which could have been pretty interesting..
An immoral man stealing from others, and particularly his ex- sister in law, and a young man repairing and fixing up land and a mansion against his doctor's orders, etc. But instead, there main attraction (for most readers) was the sex!

Repeat listen just as it was a repeat read

ALL the feels. Anyone who’s ever lost the ability to do something they love will REALLY get into this one. Suitably creepy & well fleshed villain.

Enjoyed... But

I was looking forward to Valentine's story. It was good, but it slumped in areas, and the book felt like it was going on forever before something really happened. I enjoyed the series so far, but I don't know if I will continue.

I love the Windham series!

I read these years ago and am enjoying listening to them now. I like most of the voices James Langton does, but I admit I am not big on the main female voices. Still, I do love the stories and am happily listening my way through them. Val has been my favorite brother from the start and I love his book!

Good story But...

Enjoyable story but, too much sex unnecessarily. Disappointed I enjoy this writer's work but it would be fair more enjoyable to me without all ths Detailed sex scenes.

The male lead saved this book

I found myself saying not so nice things out loud while listening because the lead female, Ellen, was such an idiot. The men in these books save them from being too stupid to finish. Valentine is my favorite Windham brother with Devlin coming in second. Their female counterparts are wishy-washy, whiny, and irrational. It is as if the women are just a vehicle allow the men to shine. Maybe that's on purpose.
