About this listen

It's British versus American in this engaging battle of wits!

British private investigator, Thomas Kincaid, thinks he's seen it all...until a gorgeous, soaking-wet American shows up and demands he help her find a stolen family heirloom. Having had his heart crushed once before by a beautiful woman, Kincaid has no intention of tempting fate a second time. But Joanna Thorncroft isn't about to take no for an answer.

Joanna has to find her mother's ring and discover the secrets it contains. Secrets that have brought her all the way across the Atlantic and onto the doorstep of a sinfully handsome detective. While falling in love is the furthest thing from her mind, fiercely independent Joanna can't help but find herself drawn to Kincaid . . . and the blazing passion that soon threatens to consume them.

But when the scandalous truth about the ring's history is unveiled, it changes both the past and the present. If Joanna and Kincaid want a future together, they must risk everything to get it . . . including their hearts.

Contains mature themes.

That was fun

I Really enjoyed the characters but also did a great job giving him each of great personality and narrator. Did an awesome job bringing them to life.

VERY ENTERTAINING!

This book brought a few more chuckles than the others in the series, great comments by the leading lady in particular & male lead. The bickering by the sisters got a little monotonous in the beginning particularly. But mellowed out eventually. The narration was excellent for one narrator that is. Enjoyed it!

Ultimately, it's a DNF for me

It's not a bad book, and I liked the concept, but the telling of the story doesn't work for me personally. When the FMC desperately asks for the private investiagor, the MMC, to take her case, she offers to do his secretarial work in exchange. She points out how much he needs this work done. Then the first day she comes to work she does none of it, instead this is all about their attraction. All their thoughts, inner monologues and conversation are about each other. He doesn't want to go there, she's determined to make it happen. It lost me immediately. What kind of story is that? Am I supposed to respect her character when she begs to work for him, and then just plans on how to seduce him? That day is cut short...By the second day she tricks him into taking her out to a play. She knows he doesn't want to, but she doesn't care. This ends up in a situation where the MMC is now protective and possessive of her. By the third day , they get, ahem, busy. All of the first 11 chapters are 90% them thinking about each other or having conversations with side characters about each other. Also, the MMC's best friend is likely to be accused of murder and has asked for his help... but the MMC is WAY too busy thinking about the FMC... It just annoys me.. After a few days , where they have spent little time together the FMC's sister asks her if she wants to marry the MMC... and the FMC denies, but realizes she may. UGH, this has an interesting outline for a story, but I feel she walked in the his door looking for help and the story fell away and it's all about them wanting to get inside each others clothing. I'm bored and I'm out. I should mention, that I like this narrator a lot, I feel her accents come and go in this particular story, but I still feel happy to listen to her.
