Publisher's summary

A riveting story of heroism, heartache, and the power of love to heal all wounds by New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin.

Murphy Shepherd is a man with many secrets. He lives alone on an island, tending the grounds of a church with no parishioners, and he’s dedicated his life to rescuing those in peril. But as he mourns the loss of his mentor and friend, Murph himself may be more lost than he realizes.

When he pulls a beautiful woman named Summer out of Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway, Murph’s mission to lay his mentor to rest at the end of the world takes a dangerous turn. Drawn to Summer, and desperate to find her missing daughter, Murph is pulled deeper and deeper into the dark and dangerous world of modern-day slavery.

With help from some unexpected new friends, including a faithful Labrador he plucks from the ocean and an ex-convict named Clay, Murph must race against the clock to locate the girl before he is consumed by the secrets of his past—and the ghosts who tried to bury them.

With Charles Martin’s trademark lyricism and poignant prose, The Water Keeper is at once a tender love story and a heartrending search for freedom.

“Charles Martin fans rejoice, because he’s done it again . . . a multilayered story woven together with grace and redemption, and packed tight with tension and achingly real characters.” —Lauren Denton, USA TODAY bestselling author of The Hideaway

Drawn in by the characters

I loved the characters in this book from the main character, the wayward dog, the sick old man, the desperate mother, the lost girl, the mentor, and the elusive love. This book used the difficult subject matter of human trafficking to not only expose the issue but to also make a captivating story line. I'm really looking forward to the next book!

Loved it

An interesting story that kept me listening for more, with just enough seriousness, but still a happy story. I’m not interested in a story that is too sad or heartbreaking. This was perfect!

Good as usual.

I really like his writing style. This story was a bit far fetched at times and made me roll my eyes a few times but still overall a good story. I also enjoy this particular narrator.

Another GREAT Charles Martin Story

Charles Martin is a gifted writer of stories and characters. This book has a storyline that is a bit predictable but the characters and storyline are well written. The small nuances of each character and their individual stories has a way of pulling you in and making you care about what happens next. The only problem I had with this book is not how the book was narrated but believing a narrator who sounds 20 is a 49 year old man with the experience of the main character. The only problem I have with Charles Martin is closure, we don't seem to find it, he just finds a spot and ends. Throughly enjoyed the experience of falling into this book.
