About this listen

Gazing out the cabin window at the raging blizzard, fear suddenly floods through her as she feels a stranger’s hand clamp across her mouth. No one can hear her stifled screams as she is dragged from the couch by the fire out into the snow.

When 17-year-old Savannah Devenish vanishes from her family’s remote vacation cabin in Minnesota, FBI Agent Tori Hunter races along treacherous icy roads to be first on the scene. Savannah’s parents are frantic with worry for their beautiful, carefree girl. Haunted by memories of her own missing sister, Tori vows to do whatever it takes to reunite this family.

When the police uncover that Savannah’s father, Jacob, was having an affair, they suspect his involvement, but Tori is convinced his despair is genuine. Her close relationship with the chief detective means the team won’t listen, so Tori strikes off alone, persuading Savannah’s distraught best friends to share their secrets. It seems this "good girl" was sneaking out to parties to meet up with a mysterious man....

Then another teenager is snatched from the street, snowy footprints and a discarded hot chocolate cup the last trace of her. The girls are the same age, strikingly pale and blonde. Is a twisted collector stealing them away? And what chance is there that they are being kept alive?

With a deadly snowstorm closing in, Tori battles the elements - and her own team - as she follows the trail to an abandoned cabin by a frozen lake. In the basement are bedrooms filled with clothes for teenage girls. Tori was too late to save her own missing sister 20 years ago, but can she find these girls before they disappear forever?

An utterly addictive and twisty crime thriller that will have your heart in your mouth.

Brilliant, moving and exciting

2 issues: the summary of the book is really off. It’s not Tori fighting against her team/ and she was not first on the scene. She’s tagging along with Will. It’s his team and Tori is helping and teams don’t always agree but that’s reality. Overall the team works together really well.
The second one is the long explanation at the beginning of the book/ its sad to waste so much time with what we already know/ I mean most of us are coming here from book 1-right.
It’s incredible how brilliant the narrator Kate is. Her different voices have me truly believe in each character. She is incredible. The best. Don’t ever change her out please!!!
I loved this one/ even better than book 1. Natural character growth. The first one was a lot of suspending reality. There’s a big difference between a “twist” and a total random person being the killer that arrives at the last minute telling the cop or victim all of his secrets and how he did “it”. It feels cheap and a cop out. Book 2 really matures itself in showing each part of the far reaching investigation and how the team gets closer to the truth. I love it, I love Tori, Cal, Will, Quinn, Steak- love them all! On to book 3. Z

Excellent mystery

I am a fan of this author and this series so I was not disappointed in this newest thriller. I love the relationship between Tory and Will as well as the other characters. The narrator is terrific and I enjoyed her interpretation of the many characters. I will be watching closely for the next thriller in this series.

Good if you ignore the dialogue

The plots are good - but not as twisty as advertised. The dialogue between the characters often leaves a lot to be desired - especially the female characters - truly cringey. The narrator is okay but brutalizes some pretty easy words. Not the best book, but not the worst either.

Awesome

Another great listen. LOVE the narration. The character development is believable. The plot was a hard topic, but very gripping. Just really enjoying this series. Can’t wait to start the next book. Highly recommend

EXCELLENT MYSTERY!!

Roger Stelljes is a superb writer and story teller. I love the length of the stories that I get for my credit. R. Stelljes does such a magnificent job of building the characters throughout the story. I also love Kate Handford's voice. She does a wonderful job of narration. This is definitely a series that needs to be listened to starting with Book 1. I highly recommend this series.

Hunter and Braddock are on the case again!

I was wondering what would happen in the second book after we learned at the end of the first book that Tori resigned from the FBI. Never fear— there’s always something in MM that needs to be investigated! This time, two girls are abducted into what at first appears to be a sex trafficking ring but there’s something else going on that Tori discovers in her attempts to find the missing girls. This was another solid installment in the series and I’m looking forward to listening to the third one in the upcoming days!
