Publisher's summary

Introducing Audible Exclusive Their Lost Daughters, the first in the Jackman and Evans crime series, written by Joy Ellis, Audible's breakthrough crime author of 2018.

Deep in the muddy fields of the Lincolnshire Fens, a teenage girl is found wandering, delirious, claiming to have been drugged at a party. Metres away, the drowned body of another girl is found on an isolated beach. And all this on a small stretch of land where, nearly 10 years ago, the shocking disappearance of a young girl remains an open case.

For DI Rowan Jackman and DS Marie Evans, the pressure is on to bring the perpetrators of these shocking crimes to justice. Are the crimes linked? Who are these young girls? And what on earth is going on under the green and pastured land of the Lincolnshire Fens?

An Amazon Kindle number one best seller, Their Lost Daughters by Joy Ellis is performed by the incredible Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) and available exclusively at Audible. Be prepared for your pulse to rise and your nights to be disturbed as our breakthrough crime author of 2018 weaves her dark web of mystery. Perfect for fans of Sarah A. Denzil, LJ Ross and Denzil Meyrick.

About the author

Joy Ellis is not your ordinary newcomer to crime fiction. She started work in the 1960s as an apprentice florist in Covent Garden before opening her own flower shop in Lincolnshire. Later in life, she began to consider a career change towards crime writing and attended a workshop in Greece led by Sue Townsend, author of Adrian Mole. Ellis has now left the flowers behind and dedicates her life to writing gritty crime thrillers set in the Fens, where she lives with her police officer partner.

About the narrator

Richard Armitage is a British actor known for his vast array of film, television and theatre work, including The Hobbit, Spooks and The Crucible. His trademark baritone voice has earned him recognition, too, through his performance on many notable audiobooks as well as in TV and radio show narration.

His audiobook credits include The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde featured in The Monster Collection, David Copperfield, and Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, and this experience shines through in Armitage's gripping performance of Their Lost Daughters.

Editorial reviews

"Put your headphones on, turn your Wi-Fi off, clear your diary and take a ride with DI Jackman and DS Evans. As you listen to Their Lost Daughters they will start to feel like old friends, and you will live through their triumphs and traumas on the trail of one of the most wantonly twisted crimes ever to grace an audiobook. The book is harrowing at times but never overdone. It's as heartfelt as it is disturbing. In the run up to the final, brilliantly executed twist, it is almost clinically impossible to press the pause button." - Gabriel, Audible Editor

"Checking my home for intruders isn't one of my standard nighttime rituals, but after listening to Their Lost Daughters, I found myself doing just that. In this chilling narrative, Joy Ellis expertly plays on your deepest fears and delivers a satisfying, shocking twist that no crime aficionado could predict. It bears all the hallmarks of great TV shows like Broadchurch, and with powerful narration from Richard Armitage you genuinely feel part of the action as the hunt to find the killer intensifies. I urge you to experience it in all its glory." - Jess, Audible Editor

Wonderful!!

An engrossing and well written story. It ducks you in and keeps you craving more. of course Richard Armitage is the sexiest voice of all time, but he is also mega talented with his wide breadth of character voices. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Superb writing and excellent narrator performance

Joy Ellis is a superb writer. She has done her research of the internal workings, dynamics and relationships of law enforcement. CID, coroner, specialized units, intra-agency departments, behind-the-scenes law enforcement relationships, she nailed it. The eye for detail and accuracy doesn't go unnoticed. Ellis creatively works in these details into her novel seamlessly. She had me from Chapter One and I couldn't stop listening (a book you just can't put down). I never have binged listened an audiobook, but this one I did. It was worth every second. Now it is just waiting (impatiently) for her next two audiobook releases. In the meantime, I will be listening to Their Lost Daughters several more times.
Richard Armitage's spectacular performance of multiple characters all at once in several scenes is mind blowing. I felt like this was a live radio performance, not just an audiobook. How he creates such distinct voices for each character and can move effortlessly between each in an incredible talent that not many narrators have. You could feel, see, smell, taste and hear the settings like you were actually on The Fens and as if you were standing right next to Jackman, Evans and the rest of the lot.
Highly recommend Their Lost Daughters.

Intricate!

I love detective, suspense and mystery stories. This was all. This was one of the best because it was intelligent, interesting and though you can guess some things, it really is full of surprises. Different aspects all come together for a satisfying wrap up.

Brilliant book - story and narration

This is a really great story, Full of rich characters that you can really come to like, as well as a great plot and lots of twists and turns that are unexpected. The narration was wonderful as well. Held my attention from the very first paragraph until the very last. As soon as it ended I looked up more books by this author and I’m about to listen to the first one in this series, which I had never heard of before. I hope it’s as good as this one

A mystery that captures your heart and soul.

Joy Ellis has quickly risen to be my favorite author. Her books are full of intrigue, but she really shines in character development. Her characters are ones you truly care about. Included in her cast is the setting. The Fen plays well as a backdrop for her stories. If possible, listen to them on Audible. Richard Armitage is a masterful reader. Each character’s voice is unique and
distinct. He switches between each voice and accent effortlessly. I have listened to this story multiple times and I discover more nuances each time. I can not recommend this story, author and series any more highly! Ten stars!!!

This is the second book, not the first!

Audibles order is wrong. Maybe the people who thought the characters were confusing would have found it easier if they read the first one first? Anyway I love this series so far, very relaxing considering the murder and mayhem.

Great read and narration

I really liked the story and dialog and the different British slang. Richard Armitage was very very good with the narration also.

Came for the voice, stayed for the story

Full disclosure: I'd be happy just to hear Richard Armitage read the Periodic Table. Not only does he have a magnificent voice, he is a gifted narrator. But as it went along, I became invested in the lot and interested in finding out whodunnit. The author juggled several plausible suspects, with a satisfying resolution to the mystery. #Suspenseful #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes
