Publisher's summary

When her husband is offered a post at a small northwestern university, Maye Roberts is only too happy to pack up and leave the relentless Phoenix heat for the lush green quietude of Spaulding, Washington. While she loves the odd little town, there is one thing she didn't anticipate: just how heartbreaking it would be to leave her Phoenix friends behind. And when you're a childless 30-something freelance writer who works at home, making new friends can be quite a challenge.

After a series of false starts nearly gets her banished from the town, Maye decides that her last chance to connect with her new neighbors is to enter the annual Sewer Pipe Queen Pageant, a kooky but dead-serious local tradition open to contestants of all ages and genders. Aided by a deranged former pageant queen with one eyebrow, Maye doesn't just make a splash; she uncovers a sinister mystery that has haunted the town for decades.

very good

I really enjoyed this book. The main character got into so many scrapes that I cringed when something was going right with her because I knew that something bad was coming. The end was a little weird, though.

Funny!!

I really enjoyed this book. The main character is so regular she might be your best friend...the best friend that moved away and now struggles to just meet somebody to have lunch with, and the result of her search are BOTH disastrous and hilarious.

I really liked this book and was sad to have it end. The narrator got irritating at times but the book was just too good to care.

Fun romp

While there were times when I found the storyline to drag a little bit, and felt the characters a little too comical, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narrator did an excellent job with the voices, and we all know that a bad narrator can do to an audiobook.
The reader/listener lucks out with this one.

One of my favorites

I have hundreds of Audible books, and I’ve owned this one for years. It’s one I come back to and listen to every couple of years. It is silly and fun and never fails to make me feel good. I highly recommend it.

fun & witty

I had never heard of this author before & the title was catchy so I thought I would give it a try. The book cute & made me laugh on more than one occasion. It was light-hearted & a very easy "read". If you're looking for something different than the norm, give this book a try.

Laugh Out Loud Funny

Incredibly funny. Well written and well read. The plot gets a little fantastic at the end, which takes away from the enjoyment a bit. I'd still recommend it as a book you want to hear and an author you'd want to hear more from.

Weird but fun and different

At first the cover and the title put me off. But I am glad I read it. The author did a great job getting the characters to come to life with all of their foibles and good points and the narrator did a good job with all of the voices. I especially liked how the story brought out the difficulties for an outsider to fit in the community of a small city and make friends. Been there, done that.

Very Entertaining!

This is a fun, yet suspenseful story. The characters are colorful and relatable as is the theme of making new friends.

I love Notaro!

She is such a funny author. Just separate yourself from the world for a while and enjoy this book. Yes, it's silly and tongue in cheek, but that's part of the charm. Notaro can always make me laugh. The "Idiot Girls" books will make you snort out-loud with laughter!
