About this listen

This is for the Other Child invites listeners into the often-silenced world of siblings who grew up in the shadow of child sexual assault. With raw authenticity and a deeply personal lens, the author—herself a sibling survivor—exposes the hidden emotional terrain that brothers and sisters navigate, torn between loyalty, silence, and their own unspoken pain.

But this book is more than a memoir. It’s written by someone who not only lived the reality she describes but who has also spent a decade guiding survivors and professionals through transformative healing. Her dual perspective as a survivor and a respected leader in trauma recovery makes this book both a personal narrative and a powerful advocacy tool. She doesn’t just tell a story—she gives voice to the “other” children, those whose silent battles demand recognition.

Through moving and unflinching storytelling, the author explores the long-lasting impact of childhood trauma on family dynamics and sibling relationships, shedding light on the often unseen scars carried into adulthood. Her words offer a path to healing for those still grappling with secrecy and the weight of a disrupted childhood.

Why should you listen to this book? It’s not just about understanding the hidden scars of those who stood in the shadows—it’s about empathy, awareness, and change. If you want to grasp the complex human side of trauma and support the journey of healing, This is for the Other Child is a must-listen for survivors, therapists, educators, and anyone ready to engage with the difficult truths of family and survival.

This book is a call to acknowledge the “other” children—the ones who were there all along, but never truly seen. It’s time to bring their stories to light.

GREAT READ!

After reading this book all I could say was WOW. What an outstanding book and narration. I could feel the emotions poured into each chapter. Being the other child or not this is definitely a great read. Family can and will abuse you sexually, financially, emotionally and so on. You may not see it right away because we love our family deeply and make excuses for them. Enough is enough it’s okay to make it about you. It’s time to make it about you. Courageous Fire you did an amazing job. Sincerely Cortney Ewing

I didn’t know what to think before reading…

I wasn’t sure what to expect. I personally have never experienced sexual molestation or sexual abuse. All of my trauma comes from betrayal of people that I love most, disappointments but one thing I can say is what I just listened to you don’t have to be in any of those categories to really understand, and feel every single word and you don’t have to be in this particular situation to have this help you listening to this sample has helped me in more ways than I thought it would this book applies to people with general hurt from their parents from their siblings just pure pain you can literally hear it in her voice. The thought of battling or even opening up and talking about it or letting it just dissolve. I’m definitely going to finish this entire book because the sample has me on edge encourage you all to do the same, And no, I will say it again you do not have to be a victim of sexual abuse to enjoy this book. This book has helped me already and I have only read the sample. I cannot wait to finish the Book in its entirety.

Never knew I need this!!!!

The eloquent artistry of Courageous! You've turned the pain and villainy you were assigned into a survivor’s guide for others who’ve also endured unjust trauma, misplaced anger, and assigned as the villains in their nuclear families, usually unbeknownst to them.
Blessings, appreciation, and gratitude to Courage for laying bare her story and sharing such raw emotion. Hearing your words recite the thoughts of your heart tells your story but listening to the pain and hurt, as well as the joy and sheer elation catapults the reader into those experiences, wanting nothing more than to fight and protect the OC or be that sister that she needed and deserved.
This book is groundbreaking - the audience the author chose to address - the forgotten child and often the story that never gets told, much less heard. Whether you belong to this community of OCs or you can just identify through a similar lens, the guidance and affirmations are for everyone.
A genuine jewel to have in navigating trauma, recovery, restoration & resilience. I pray this read blesses others as it has blessed me.
To the author, thank you for your courage and your fire! I too am proud of this work with you and share in the belief and prayer that it will not only be a blessing to you but will be an outpouring of guidance and strength beyond your years. You have amplified your brilliance with this one and I’m excited for more of your greatness in the years to come!

The tone of the narrator

Listening to the preview of the story sounded like we were having a conversation. I was pulled in by the initial remarks and wanted to hear more after that 5 minute preview.

Her name says it all “Courageous Fire”, Her story “This Is For The Other Child” compelling.

This book is told uniquely from The Other Child (OC) which I found.. very powerful. As I listened further through the authors recount of pivotal experiences I continued to be moved as I listened to every word. As my brain processed, my heart felt the pain. One really big and major takeaway for me was when Courageous referenced and advocated for seeking support through counseling/therapy. What I appreciated Courageous sharing with us the readers / listeners regarding counselors/ therapists was the importance of finding the right fit by interviewing potential therapists and counselors that specialize in the area you need to be supported in. At the end I heard and felt the strength and resilience in Courageous Fires’ words and voice, Which is why I am so glad I was able to listen to, “This Is For The Other Child” through Audible.
