Colonial Union diplomat Hart Schmidt is back home for Harvest Day celebrations - to a family whose members wonder whether its youngest son isn’t wasting his life clinging to the lowest rung of the CU’s diplomatic ladder. Home or the Stars?

I think this was the weakest of The Human Division stories so far, but that didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy listening to it. The other stories clearly show the progress of the Colonial Union in dealing with the problem of an earth that has figured out how badly it has been used and treated by the Union and the problems this has caused the Union as they have now lost their unlimited supply of soldiers from earth, forcing them to change their foreign policy from one of military conflict to one of diplomacy. By contrast, this novel follows one of the minor diplomats as he returns home to his family for the holidays. His father and the rest of his family want him to abandon his diplomatic career and join their political colonial dynasty and he has to determine what to do. It’s a good story, but didn’t feel as “meaningful” as the others in the series have.

WELL?

This isn't a bad story. It's just not unnecessary . He comes home for Harvest Day, has dinner with his family. And tells what happened in some of the first books! If you listened to the other books in this saga you'll ask Why? This is a unnecessary as a book. But worth the $0.69 I paid for it.

It' Hart's book

This one is about Hart, you get to know him and his life more.

Nothing regarding the union or so, it is mainly about Hart. This one is not too bad, give it a listen and you will know why not writing much here.

Top Form SciFI

I thought by the 10th episode the quality of this excellent and very entertaining fiction would fall off, I was wrong. I'm as thrilled by the 10th as I was by the 1st. The character development is deep, the storyline is gripping. This is as good as I've listened too in a long time.

Christmas with Schmidt

Schmidt takes leave to visit his home planet during the holidays. If this was a sitcom this would be the Christmas episode that inevitably comes around once a year, but Scalzi injects it with enough sarcasm and dysfunctional family dynamics to make Rosanne proud. William Dufris does a great job as usual.

I love these and you will too. Start from number one. I started in the middle and had to go back to the beginning and listen through again. I really hope the author writes more of these. They never get old. Also, more Old Man’s War please!!

I liked getting to know Hart Schmidt's family

The tenth episode in this series tells of Hart Schmidt returning home for the Harvest Day celebrations, and we discover what his home life is like and the political family he comes from.

This was a fun episode because we get a glimpse at the kind of family Hart comes from (his Dad is a powerful politician) and we learn how he really feels about his life. I also loved the mention back to the "dog" incident (as told in The Dog King) because that was one of my favorite episodes in the entire series so far.

William Dufris really is flawless in my opinion. I'm loving his voices, especially when he's given new characters to work with. I definitely plan to hunt out some more audiobooks narrated by him once I finish this series.

Great Character-Driven Episode

A great character-driven episode about one of the players on the Clarke, his family relations and his decision to choose his own path in life.
