About this listen

In June of 1940, when Paris fell to the Nazis, Hitler spent a total of three hours in the City of Light-abruptly leaving, never to return. To this day, no one knows why.

The New York Times best-selling author of the Aimee Leduc investigations reimagines history in her masterful, pulse-pounding spy thriller, Three Hours in Paris.

Kate Rees, a young American markswoman, has been recruited by British intelligence to drop into Paris with a dangerous assignment: assassinate the Fuhrer. Wrecked by grief after a Luftwaffe bombing killed her husband and infant daughter, she is armed with a rifle, a vendetta, and a fierce resolve. But other than rushed and rudimentary instruction, she has no formal spy training. Thrust into the red-hot center of the war, a country girl from rural Oregon finds herself holding the fate of the world in her hands. When Kate misses her mark and the plan unravels, Kate is on the run for her life - all the time wrestling with the suspicion that the whole operation was a set-up.

Cara Black, doyenne of the Parisian crime novel, is at her best as she brings Occupation-era France to vivid life in this gripping story about one young woman with the temerity - and drive - to take on Hitler himself.

Not being one for spy stories, this one ticked all the boxes for suspense. Well done, Cara.

It’s amazing when an author can take a moment in history and create a narrative that is captivating and mostly fiction. Character development was ok for the main players but others I had difficulty keeping track of. Definitely moments of suspense and intrigue!

Narration was excellent in keeping with the time period and genuine voice to the characters!!

Really liked it!!

Was hard to follow, but an ok read. Elizabeth Rogers is definitely one of my favorites and she did a great job!!

Not to bad

The story was gripping! I couldn't wait to hear what happened next. I think it was well written and I think.. with the exception of the French accent... the narration was excellent. If you are a World War II history buff this is an excellent novel for you.

Edge of my seat!!

This book exceeded my expectations. I don’t typically gravitate towards historical type novels. But I’m so very impressed with the quality of the writing and excellent job on the narrator’s part.

So good!!

I have read numerous thrillers, and World War II thrillers, and this is among the best I have ever read (or listen to as an audiobook). The characters were so well drawn and believable, and the details so real that I felt immersed in the story. The story included lots of great spy craft, details about weapons, and characters dialogue that was crisp and well imagined.

The narrator, Elizabeth Rogers, did a fantastic job, reading the story with perfect pace, and great character voicings. Her command of French really helped. Tell those parts of the story. Bravo, Elizabeth!

I was so glad that there was a second book in the series, and I just purchased it to listen to next, even over some of my other thrillers, such as the latest Mitch Rapp installment.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre. I love reading books that hold true to historical fact and fill the gaps with plausible, captivating, “it could have happened” dialogue and scenes.

The “it could have happened” storyline and characters of Three Hours in Paris was intriguing, however some of the scenes felt implausible and too convenient for the character, a first time assassin dropped behind enemy lines.

For a character whose French was supposed to be pretty accurate having lived and went to school in Paris, the narrator’s slow, plodding pronunciation sounded like a student still practicing. At times, I had to turn off the narrative it was so grating!

I am interested in the main character and hope that future books find her more fully developed and the narrator does her and the storyline justice.

Overall, entertaining for several hours of drive time, however not in my top tier of listens.

Interesting premise, expected more

What an unexpected delight. The story was very believable and I loved the authors note at the end. War is the ugliest human behavior, but even when trapped within it, restraint and kindness can be seen.

Fantastic!

Loved every second of it and had a hard time stopping. I'd even sit in my car after I'd get to my destination to listen a little longer. I never knew what was going to happen next. The twists and turns were fantastic. Bravo!!!

Outstanding!!!!
