About this listen

Would you choose peace over truth?

How long could that peace last?

The citizens enjoy the peace of their perfectly planned city. But when she notices cracks in the facade, Jordan’s waking dreams turn to nightmares.

She thought she had received the promotion of a lifetime; she was wrong. The promotion only brings her closer to terrifying truths of the administration.

Secrets told to keep the citizens safe turn out to be lies to keep them in line. Those in power manipulate from the shadows behind whispers and fear.

Because if Jordan is brave enough to look past the veil, a mad wasteland awaits.

Now, for any chance at survival beyond the wall, she must create implausible alliances. Time is short. Hope exists. And the truth could be even more shocking than she expected.

Full of the fast-paced, insane ride found in Nicholas Sansbury Smith’s Hell Divers and the twists and turns in A.G. Riddle’s Atlantis Gene.

Great adventure with Awesome Narrative

First off I have to let you know that the narrator's Mark Bogart and Suzy Jackson did one fantastic job in bringing to life the story. I am excited to be able to listen to a fantastic story. Jonathan Yanze has not disappointed in this story. One of bravery, which shows how you can always push your self to do what you may have been afraid to do. This makes this story awesome.

Survival in a Strange Land

Life in the city isn't always what it seems to be as a young physical training manager discovers when she decides to look into secrets her former boss uncovered just before he was fired (outside) allegedly for failing to met quotas. What follows is a bit government secrets, a bit alien robot hunt, a bit post-apocalyptic survival in the outside and all thriller. I was mesmerized by the pounding pace and great characterization that marks this first in a series by Jonathan Yanez. Just when I thought I had an idea where the story was going, he threw a new curve at me and, along with the characters, I was off on a new roller coaster ride .
If you're a survivalist literature fan, or even if you just love a good futuristic thriller with more twists and turns than a mid-western corn maze, you will LOVE this story.

Wasteland adventures

What can I say? I love this author! I don’t usually read much sci-fi but this author really makes it interesting. Readers of urban fantasy and sci-fi will both love it. I loved the main character Jordan. She had a good head on her shoulder and wasn’t afraid to go the extra mile for people. It was a really scary place outside the city gates. Something no one expected. I kept thinking I was inside a video game and running for my life. I just knew there was no escaping the tickers. But this bunch did a great job. I was sad when we lost some of the ones we met, but that’s how it goes with any battle.

The narration was superb! Loved it!

Easy and Fun Listen

When I got this book, it was on the strength of Mark Boyett and Suzy Jackson's narration. Mark does most of B. V. Larson's narrations and Suzy did one of Brandon Sanderson books. So, I knew the narration would be terrific.

The story is fast paced with a very interesting premise. At the time of this review, there are only 13 ratings and I hope this story catches on. This is my effort to help it along. I will also write a review of the next in the series, but for now, this is a very strong start and Yanez clearly has talent.

PA survival, enjoyed the dual narration

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

TLDR; Standard PA survival deal, if you enjoy them this doesn't really break the mold (yet).

***Spoilers below***

This runs through most of the PA survival troupes you'll be expecting. Walled off city, with 1984ish government running the city, and our main character breaks out of the city after learning too much. That covers the first chunk of the book, after that, we find resistance fighters who are surviving outside the city. This whole first book is your basic PA survival story. However, it builds into what could be an interesting Sci-Fi direction throughout the book. Basically, they are aliens (maybe) that are controlling this world as an experiment of some kind. This could open the series up to some interesting directions in the future. Basically, at this point, you're gambling on a decent PA survival growing into something more. The book was done well enough that I think it might be worth the gamble.

*** End Spoilers***

Overall, if you want some PA survival that might grow into something more this is probably right up your ally.

Post-Apocalyptic--A City Fighting to Survive!

They live in a city of lies. Who's telling the truth? Only the town leader knows what's going on. Or, does he? Does he know it all? Anyone who digs to find answers is thrown out of the city. Well, as it turns out, there are 6 cities, and a pyramid at the center of them. Someone is running an experiment on them. Someone wants one of the cities to kill the other five. But what's the truth. The only things the survivors outside the city gates know is #1: Killer Robots are everywhere, and #2: Wherever they are... it isn't earth.
This was a fun book, though it ends at a cliffhanger, the conclusion of book one is done, and I'm looking forward to checking out book 2.
The audio book was fantastically narrated.

A "Matrix" social experience

This story starts with the perfect society and the question: would you risk the perfect life you have to know the truth behind your society?
I believe this question resonates very well in today's society and though here things end up to be about peace or war (or in the end, plain survival) it is still a very good book full of suspense and action.
Not everything is revealed, so many secrets should be discovered in the next books of the serie. I'm looking forward to that.
The narrators are also great and very expressive. The dual narration works like charm!

Thrive

This book was enjoyable and easy to read. I found it to be interesting in that it had a society who was ignorant of it's history.

Survival - Check, Post-Apocalyptic - Kind of

Post-Apocalyptic - Kind of states it in theory
Alien - is mentioned a time or two by the end
Survival - It gets there battling Robots (I guess this is where the Alien comes in)
Novel - I'll grant them this one

I must say this is a pretty good novel but does not really fit in the Post-Apocalyptic category.
The story starts out in a typical kind of town till you find out that it is a walled city. There are special rules and everyone follows them. So far this could take place today in a secluded commune. We eventually find out that that this City is a refuge after a great war and any who are put out of the City are assumed dead by default. No one really knows what it is like outside the walls as no one has been there and come back.

Some of the facts of this story just don't add up in my mind. The City is a 6 mile by 6 mile Square (or circle, I am not really sure)
This is so that the population that lives in the center has less than a 3 mile walk to any of the businesses that are arranged around the outer part of the City within the 20 story high walls.
Then they casually talk about raising a thousand man (or more) Army?

Other than a few such issues, I found this an easy story to get involved in. It was well read by two narrators, one male and one female. They alternated by chapter along with the perceived speaker.

Don't want to give too much away in the review. Get the book, you will enjoy it. If not, return it. Audible is good that way.

A good start to what looks to be an interesting series.
