Publisher's summary

He’s a cynical, world-weary Londoner. She’s a shy Scot. They might seem like opposites, but a few weeks in the Highlands will bring them together in ways they can’t imagine…

Theo Cavendish is the second son of a British viscount, and he’s spent years running from the aristocratic world he grew up in. Betrayal and loss taught him lessons he’s not quick to forget. As an award-winning screenwriter and creator, Theo prefers to throw himself into the world of film and television. He moves from one project to another, never really letting anyone truly know him.

As a housekeeper at the exclusive Ardnoch Estate, shy Sarah McCulloch feels invisible most days. No one really knows her, and they definitely don’t know she’s a bestselling crime writer. She dreams of seeing her series on screen and believes only one person can develop it for television. On the day she quits the estate for good, she shares her secret with club member, Theo, and asks him to consider her books.

Sarah never expected him to say yes or to show up on her doorstep ready to write with her. Or that weeks spent locked up in her cottage would lead them to form an intense but undeniable connection. A bond that Theo is not sure he’s ready to accept, even though he can’t bear to be without her.

However, when they finally venture out of their bubble, Theo finds he’ll have to battle more than his own demons to protect Sarah from hurt. For he has another fan, one intent on bringing the darkest elements of his most famous script to life. And unless he can figure out this real-life antagonist’s next move, Theo could be in danger of losing Sarah forever.

LOVED it! I will be honest, I was sure how I was going to feel about Theo. But wow, he might be my favorite of the men In this series so far. The charming and sexy accent and vocabulary. & I loved Sarah’s character and the growth she made throughout this series from being meek “little mouse” to strong, intelligent and confident “little darling”. I am so happy to have come across this author. I have finished these 3 books in 2 days. I started yesterday morning and just finished. I cannot wait for May 2024!

The Narrators did a fantastic job 🙌🏻 that British accent was 🥵

Theo and Sarah and murder in the highlands

Back to Ardnock in the Scottish highlands for Theo and Sarah’s story. Closed off, cynical playboy Theo finds himself in a writing slump when he is approached by an unexpected shy and quiet writer looking for help. It was beautiful how Theo cared for Sarah and the unexpected connection they formed. Samantha does a beautiful job writing complex characters that are easy to connect with.

I struggled with the female narrators voice, it just wasn’t for me. With that said, I felt she did a good job bringing the shy, timid, soft spoken Sarah to life and encapsulating “little mouse”. I don’t think anyone could have nailed her any better.

Overall, another great well written story from Samantha and totally worth the credit. I can already see another book on the horizon. I can’t want for Jared’s story!

I love Theo

THEO!!!!! My lord, Theo. I don’t have appropriate words for my obsession with THEO!!!!!!!!!! I love how he cares for Sarah, how he loves Sarah, how he protects her. SHEEEEESH. I love their relationship so much. They’re so sweet.
Samantha is really, truly the queen of romantic suspense. I wasn’t expecting the twists here at all. She kept me guessing, and kept surprising me. I absolutely love this series SO MUCH!
Zara Hampton-Brown and Shane East were too good for words, truly. They put on an incredible performance. The only way it could’ve been better would be if it was in duet!

My favorite book yet

I feel like I say this with each one of Samantha’s books…but…I’m packing my bags, and moving to the Scottish Highlands. Who’s going with me? Lol.

This book might just be my all time favorite in the Highlands world. I seriously swooned so hard over Theo and Sarah. They are total opposites…Sarah is shy and reserved, and Theo is a total playboy, but…there is so much more to these two than what appears on the surface. Their character growth throughout this book is the best! I loved their chemistry, their connection, the back and forth/push and pull humor and just how they truly complemented one another.

There were ups and downs, suspense, steamy dirty talk, and some twists that I didn’t see coming. I seriously cannot get enough of this series!!

What to expect:
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Small Town
🗒️He Takes Care of Her
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Opposites Attract
🗒️Reformed Playboy
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Forced Proximity
🗒️Suspense

If you do audiobooks, I highly recommend this one. It is an experience. The narrators did such a phenomenal job!

Loved it! Great story!

I absolutely loved Through the Glen by Samantha Young. The narrators, Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown were absolutely amazing and brought Theo and Sarah alive for me in all the best ways. Theo has lived a privileged life and has his choice of women, but also carries so much hurt from his past that he hides well. He is arrogant, confident, protective, and loyal to those he cares about. Sarah really pulled at me. She was so introverted and quiet most of the time, it was great seeing her come into her own in this story. She was caring, sweet and likable.

Sarah had been working at Ardnoch Estate through many of the previous books, but she is ready to live her life. And what has been hiding? She is a best-selling author and wants to see it come alive on screen and she is hoping Theo can help her. When they begin working together, they find a routine and connection neither expected. As they begin to truly get to know each other, they begin to see the other in ways they never expected. I love this about their journey and I was rooting for them along the way.

As they begin to see what they could be to the other, lines begin to blur. But when Theo’s past comes back in a way no one expected, are they over before it even began? It was interesting to see how others reacted to them as a couple and how strong they grew together. Theirs was no easy journey, but it was one I devoured and highly recommend. I loved this series so much and so far; this is my all-time favorite.

Happy listening!

A nice edition to the series

Through the Glen is book 3 in the Highlands series by Samantha Young but it can definitely be read as a standalone (I skipped book 2). I adored book 1 in this series but I didn't end up loving this one as much. The heroine, Sarah, is the author of a popular book series that is going to be made into a TV show. The hero, Theo, is a producer and Sarah wants him to help her write the screenplay. The first 50ish% of this book was slow and somewhat boring I actually almost DNFed at one point because I was really bored. They are just in a cottage writing and I wasn't a big fan of their chemistry. However, the second half when the suspense picks up was so much more interesting to me. I ended up really enjoying it. Their relationship grew on me. I am still not the biggest fan of either character I had a hard time connecting with them but by the end, I liked them together. Shane East always does an amazing job! The British accent was perfect. Zora Hampton Brown is new to me and I had quite a bit of difficulty connecting to her character. Her voice wasn't really my favorite. I am giving this 4 stars but it's a low 4 stars.

Surprising revelations and complex characters

Sarah McCulloch was a sleeper surprise in this story. If we're all honest we all know someone like her. Quiet, shy and likes to stay under the radar. Sarah is the perfect example of how to never underestimate the quiet people. They see more than most and learn from others experiences.

Theo Cavendish comes off as a tall poppy. He has a somewhat stereotypical 'British' attitude. Cold persona and cuttingly dry wit and humor. Considering his age, this is all revealed later in the story as to why he is this way and what he's protecting himself from.

Sarah with Theo might seem like a bit of crazy, but when Sarah makes herself be brave with nothing left to lose, she ends up on the ride of her life. And Theo will be grateful for the quiet 'little mouse' when the going really gets tough. Family is never easy.

There is also slight satisfaction knows people get their comeuppance along the way. Everyone can pretend to better than that, but in reality most people want the sour attitudes, bullies, and cheats to get theirs in the end.
