Publisher's summary

“Remember your training. Should we run afoul of an undead; Vita-D bullets do not kill vampires.”

Earth 2059: The world is changed by the introduction of a chaotic, dark magic energy. Humans have developed extraordinary abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy and shapeshifting. Many of these men and women had been previously imprisoned for decades due to the public’s misunderstanding and prejudices. Recently, the United World Government released many of the downtrodden quasi- superheroes and drafted them into defense teams aligned with Shadow Fates, Weregoyles and other mystical creatures to fight the sinister vampires and other undead monsters that threaten to destroy our altered planet.

Della, a human armed with the gifts of (Magic power, etc here), persuasion, and a sharp wit, is forced to join an Earth Mage team and embark on a mission with the daunting task of slowing the rising tide of evil supernatural forces that threaten to destroy all life on Earth. Despite the dire circumstances, Della manages to keep her team loose with a barrage of humorous one-liners that relieve the stress associated with the growing scourge of monsters, as they develop crucial team chemistry resulting from the trauma of intense battles with powerful foes.

Thy Order Nocturnal is a perfect jumping on point in the Meridian Wanderings series. This epic science fiction series will have new readers enthralled and fans of the previous MW books captivated by the heroic tale of... the Earth Mages.

Great Characters and setting

Magic has come back to the world and many things have changed. Some people mutated, others got powers, others just came of hiding The response of the United world government was arrest everybody with powers, register them, and force them to serve. Thy Order Nocturnal begins the story of a group of these earth mages, as they put the breaks on a demon plot to control the world. Fans of graphic novels and mashup comic books will love this story. Recorded by the author, you will get to hear the characters in the way that Ms. Cul'tofay thinks of her characters.

First audio book

I'm a fan of the Meridian Wanderings series and have read all the books in hard copy format. When the first Earth Mages audio book came out, I thought I'd check it out. I've never listened to an audio book before,so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was quite pleasantly surprised. It's like listening to a radio serial of old.
The story is as great as I recalled the book to be. The narration really conveys the atmosphere. There are some great character arcs in this storyline, and I was reminded of how I felt about my favorite (and not so favorite) characters at the beginning of the saga.
I think the Earth Mages series is a new and great take on the super hero genre, and the first audio book did not disappoint. I'll be getting them all as they come out. I highly recommend you do the same!

A lot of characters and storylines in one book!

Overall, I enjoyed getting to know the world and characters in "Thy Order Nocturnal" but got a little distracted by the narration until about midway through the audiobook when my ear acclimated. I wish the accents hadn't been so stereotypical and the production a little smoother. I would have been able to sort out all the developments and personalities sooner if my ear wasn't tripping over the transitions between dialogue and description etc. That being said, there is a lot of room to move forward with this world since there are so many interesting characters with fascinating powers! I am always amazed at science fiction/fantasy authors' imaginations and abilities to weave together futuristic plots and twists. Hope the author gets a bit more comfortable with narrating her future books!
