About this listen

The United States had launched a massive missile launch against China’s two invasion fleets sailing for Taiwan. B-2 bombers had flown across the Pacific and submarines had risked giving away their positions to add to the onslaught of anti-ship weapons fired by task force destroyers and B-2s flying out from Guam.

China had sustained extensive casualties among its escorting warships and landing ships, but they had endured the crossing of the Taiwan Strait. Even as Taiwan unleashed barrages of anti-ship missiles, the two invasion fleets sailed around the northern and southern ends of the island nation.

Now positioned off the eastern Taiwanese coast, the Chinese armadas are poised to strike into the heart of the republic. With Taiwan and the United States’ intelligence services taken aback by China’s decision to attack in the east, Taiwan has to rapidly deploy its defensive forces from the west. Will they arrive and be in position in time? Or will China be able to secure footholds on the island?

liked it all, however difficult to determine if chinese or Taiwanese rockets, misses, ships and aircraft at times with models types and names. Also, without a map at hand, and Asian names of places , confusing locations to sort out.

Intense realism

I've enjoyed O'Brien's previous Tipping Point books but not this one. He spent long stretches with a single character in a harrowing situation that grew tedious after a while. In the last third of the book, he abandoned characters pretty much altogether substituting plot summaries of the action. Too bad.

Unlike previous books in series this seems like a draft

The series is dragging on and getting iterative in the battles. "China sent a swarm of weapons, the ship heroicly fought off most of the barrage...but a couple missiles got through with devastating results. This same scenario has been told six different ways now. This series will likely drip into 12 books before it's complete.

Drags on much?

It is okay but I am getting really frustrated with the author’s pace. Wait months for next book and SO LITTLE happens now to move the story along. Spent literally over 3 hours rehashing the air battle that took place in previous books.

Author needs to either quicken his story progression or write longer books to move the story arc along for heaven sake.

I am about to give up on this series.

Taking TOO LONG

Hundreds of small stories that don’t weave together well. This series makes you “pay your dues” because last 3 books were bad and still feel like I have to finish. Would prefer to hear the book from an American perspective.

More of the same. Very marketable if translated to Chinese for that market. They might buy it.

Dont waste your time, monotonous dribble. No characters. Worst ive read in a while. Was this written by AI?

This book had no point
