About this listen

Selene is the youngest daughter in a gifted line of healers, born to serve as the king's royal physician. Yet when Selene's mother Persaphe embroils her in a plot to kill the king, Selene finds herself poisoning the very man she is sworn to protect.

Things seem bleak, but there is another problem—the poison doesn't work, and the king doesn't die. Rather, he awakes from his coma paralyzed, aware of the attempt on his life, and furious.

With the palace in a state of upheaval and everyone hunting the king's poisoner, Persaphe flees, leaving Selene the task of rehabilitating the man she aimed to kill, all while hiding her true role in his demise. What follows is a journey spanning years and continents, as a king and his servant develop into unlikely friends . . . and more. Yet the closer Selene grows to the king, the more her secret weighs on her, as does her growing fear that Persaphe—having failed to kill him once—might return to try again.

I love stories like this. I love the depth of the characters and love to see them evolve. If you don’t enjoy character-driven stories, this is probably not for you. But I loved it and enjoyed the plot too! Highly recommend!

SG Prince has an unmatched writing style! To Poison a King is an incredible and unique story that had me literally clinging to every word swept away by what happened in each moment and eagerly wanting to know what was about to happen! Her story will not disappoint readers of any age, young adult to 100 year olds! Wisdom is woven through the story which leaves the reader with more to ponder than simply being entertained.
Lauren Irwin was outstanding in her reading of this incredible book. I loved reading the paperback and loved the audiobook all the more! Thank you both for your gifts!

To Poison a King is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s a story that really resonated with me and that buried it’s way into my soul and will remain there. I’ve already read this book twice since it’s release, and I am so happy to have the audiobook to listen to! The narration is beautiful and keeps your immersed in the story. This story could not have been more beautifully done, the characters are incredible, Selene has to be one of my favorite characters to date. I will never stop recommending this book to everyone!

I cried and cried and cried. This story was everything I hoped it would be, and more. I will be buying a physical copy of this (which I only do in maybe one of 20-50 books I read and I read a LOT). This story was beautiful.

Amazing Standalone

I felt like I could listen to this book forever. 😭 The narrator, the FMC, the whimsy magical vibe, the slow burn (if we can even call it that), the feelings and trials, the character and relationship growth and journeys, the heartbreak and hope and loyalty... 🥹🫶👏 everything pulled at my heart strings. And it has that energy and vibe that make you dream of reading in a cottage in the woods, sipping tea, eating biscuits and listening to the soft world noise outside. Loved!

Cozy coming of age fantasy

I loved that it didn’t happen exactly how i thought it would. That every opportunity where the story could be cliche, it wasn’t. I could be very present with the characters because of how easy it was to fall into their world’s description. Loved it

Captivating
