Respectable lady scholars shouldn’t be dodging evildoers, escaping lost tombs, and chasing down magical artifacts.
Archivist and suffragette Ellie Mallory always dreamed of putting her scholarly skills to work in the ancient sands of Egypt. She never imagined she would be doing so in order to save an object of legendary power from a batch of ruthless villains.
Racing baddies to an arcanum of Biblical proportions is only one of Ellie’s problems. Her hopelessly academic and perpetually mortified step-brother, Dr. Neil Fairfax, is about to learn that she’s been gallivanting around the globe with his danger-magnet best friend, Adam Bates—the roguish surveyor for whom Ellie harbors increasingly complicated feelings.
Add the petite and terrifyingly fearless Constance Tyrrell to the mix, and Ellie either has a crack team of artifact-saving experts to hand… or a recipe for disaster.
Together, they’ll need to follow a trail of three-thousand-year-old clues from the necropolis of Saqqara to the temples of Luxor and beyond, where the ruined capital of a heretic pharaoh hides a secret with the potential to upend history.
To keep an earth-shattering magic from falling into the wrong hands, Ellie will need to pull out all the stops—even if that means resorting to fisticuffs, ignoring proper archaeological processes… and solving one of Egypt's greatest mysteries.
Dive into Tomb of the Sun King now to experience the next action-packed historical fantasy adventure in the Raiders of the Arcana series!

The Tomb of the Sun King continues to follow Ellie and Adam from the Honduran wilderness to the heart of Egypt to purse the another mystical artifact. This time, the staff of Moses. For this adventure, Ellie and Adam are joined by Ellie’s adorably geeky brother Neil and her tough as nails and force to be reckoned with best friend, Constance and full cast of equally interesting secondary characters to round out the troop. Not the mention the familiar villains tailing them front the first book.
The story continues to tackle patriarchal social themes, daring adventure, and a bit of magic. This is the perfect mix of Indiana Jones and the Mummy. And despite evoking these classics, the story, characters and plot take on lives of their own. I’ve grown very attached to Ellie and Adam. I love to watch them interact. I love seeing Ellie stand up to preconceived social norms and how Adam supports every bit of her intelligence and beliefs. The storyline is so strong, that’s even when the perspectives shifted to Neil and Constance, I didn’t feel a gaping hole. I enjoyed following all the perspectives. Even secondary Egyptian characters such as Sayyid and Zeniab add meaningful layers to the story. And of course I haven’t mentioned the adventure! These characters are looking for a mystical artifacts and we have no idea what they actually do. What I was not expecting was the twist in history! This reminded me a little of a Dan Brown novel and I loved to watch Ellie and Neil decode the clues to get to their historical outcome.
I thoroughly enjoy the Raiders of Arcana series! This is the adventure I have been looking for. If you love the Mummy, if you love the treasure hunt through different cultural histories, I think you will love this series! And where the series is going next? I CANNOT WAIT.
The audiobook was also really well performed. I loved the variations in voices. I really enjoyable audio!
A fun adventure!
