About this listen

Some people really can make you sick!

Is there anyone in your life - a relative, boss, friend, or even a lover or spouse - who drives you crazy? Are there people who make you feel inadequate, unworthy, or just plain miserable? If there's someone who's not supportive and does not wish you well, then you've got a "toxic" person in your life.

Do you recognize any of these toxic terrors?

  • The opportunistic user
  • The control freak
  • The meddler
  • The arrogant know-it-all
  • The me, myself, and I narcissist
  • The instigator
  • The emotional refrigerator
  • The liar

Dr. Glass not only helps you identify the "toxic" people in your life, she also provides 10 techniques for successfully dealing with them, including:

  • Tension-blowout
  • Unplugging
  • Direct confrontation
  • Humor

this book was very informative and broke things down and a totally understandable way I love the narrator's voice definitely going to check out her other books

great book

Book gets right to the point, defines each type and techniques to use for it. Having stories to each type and the technique to use would greatly help cement the knowledge.

If someone is emotionally abusing me, I am not going to make self depreciating jokes about myself to try to win their affection or pretend I'm Jack McCoy and ask them a long series of yes or no questions.

There is no substance to this book. The first hour and a half is a laundry list of different stereotyped personalities that may anger or annoy you (for instance Dr. Glass' "Chatterbox Toxic Terror" aka someone who tells you inane stories on the phone and doesn't let you get a word in), but most aren't anywhere near what I'd consider toxic or psychopathic.

If and when you finally get to the strategies, virtually all are laughable and presented in a very childish and condescending way, and I can see them making the situation a lot worse.

Thankfully there are better books out there for dealing with toxic people. Two that impressed me were Jon Bet's "7 Habits of Highly Manipulative People", and Jackson MacKenzie's "Psychopath Free". Each give a lot more insight, take the subject matter seriously, and provide in depth solutions and ways to heal.

No just no
too much identification of offenders, not enough of how to handle offenders.

Don't waste a credit for this.

I've NEVER read such an awful book! The author is condescending and seems to only promote a sense of hatred. I genuinely felt angry as I listened, and I'm a very happy-go-lucky sort of person (bought this book with the idea of learning to deal with a difficult relationship in my life). Even months after listening to the first three chapters that I struggled to get through, my mind is boggled as to how this was ever published. I'm actually mad that I wasted a credit on it and wish audible offered refunds and would take it out of their store.

ZERO STARS, if that was an option!

The author should have paid some to narrate the book. The subject covered was a little different then I expected. I really didn't want to hear 15 minutes of advice in a 3 hour book. The vast majority of the book is making names to label people.

wasn't my cup of tea
