About this listen

Harry Bosch searches for the truth in the new thriller from number one NYT best-selling author Michael Connelly.

Harry Bosch, exiled from the LAPD, is working cold cases for the San Fernando Police Department when all hands are called out to a local drugstore, where two pharmacists have been murdered in a robbery. Bosch and the tiny town's three-person detective squad sift through the clues, which lead into the dangerous, big-business world of prescription drug abuse. To get to the people at the top, Bosch must risk everything and go undercover in the shadowy world of organized pill mills.

Meanwhile, an old case from Bosch's days with the LAPD comes back to haunt him when a long-imprisoned killer claims Harry framed him and seems to have new evidence to prove it. Bosch left the LAPD on bad terms, so his former colleagues are not keen on protecting his reputation. But if this conviction is overturned, every case Bosch ever worked will be called into question. As usual, he must fend for himself as he tries to clear his name and keep a clever killer in prison.

The two cases wind around each other like strands of barbed wire. Along the way, Bosch discovers that there are two kinds of truth: The kind that sets you free and the kind that leaves you buried in darkness.

Tense, fast-paced, and fueled by this legendary detective's unrelenting sense of mission, Two Kinds of Truth is proof positive that "Connelly writes cops better than anyone else in the business" (New York Post).

"Narrator Titus Welliver portrays Detective Harry Bosch in the latest installment of this longstanding series...In a gravelly and sometimes growling voice, Welliver lets Bosch's indignation shine when the facts are revealed and takes on a softer and loving tone when Bosch deals with friends and family. Fans will love the climax and the promise of more Harry Bosch and, one hopes, more Welliver." (AudioFile)

Wonderful! Amazing achievement and I will cry if they don’t make the movie,

This was relevant, deep, moving, and produced well. I can’t wait to see movies made of some of the best books such as these. The TV show does not reproduce the jazzy aroma and penetrating reflections, and it seems to mash up the novels while not capturing the gravitas of the novels. This book was made where we clearly can visualize the actors married to the beloved characters and I hope mature thrillers can be mad once again. The Haller character is particularly amazing and I would like to see more of combining the best of the author’s characters in the same book. I would like to see a book that puts them together with equal viewpoint time.

Great book. Maybe one of the best. It has soul.

Used "said," too many times

Great plot, clearly understands law enforcement terminology. The performer enhanced the experience by giving characters different voices

Masterful Harry Bosch

The author has had a few stories with slow spots but this one zipped along with two parallel investigations that BOTH hooked me from the beginning and kept building. It even had a brother Micky Haller cameo. Great writing!

Wonderful as usual, and definitely worth the wait

Michael Connelly, does it everytime. I love the way he ties up all loose ends. All story line questions are answered, even the ones you forgot about, and I love Harry Bosch😉

Another excellent Bosch

A long time ago in a galaxy far away, after I got out of the service, I briefly thought about becoming a cop. Harry Bosch is the kind of cop I would’ve wanted to become. Tough, honorable, incorruptible , dedicated and remorseless in pursuit of justice for the victims of crime.

Here we have another in Michael Connelly’s continuing brilliant Harry Bosch police procedurals. And we get a twofer with his half brother Mickey Haller, the Lincoln Lawyer, playing a major part in uncovering corruption and defending Harry from a serious assault on his integrity in the 30 year old case of a death row killer seeking to win his freedom. And we get a look into the world of pill mills feeding the opioid epidemic.

The only bad thing about this novel is I started reading(listening ) to it at the same time as season 5 came out for the Amazon Prime series “Bosch” which is basically this book. It will be interesting I guess to see how faithful the TV series is to the book.

Titus Weilever, who plays Bosch on the TV series is the narrator and he is excellent. Titus is an excellent actor and is perfect for the TV part so it is an easy transition to reading the same part in the books. My only complaint is that Weilever’s voices are sometimes not differentiated enough to tell who is speaking. Not all characters but some. His female voices are “ok”. He does accented voices very well.

All in all an excellent addition to the series. I sincerely hope Connelly continues to give us more Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller. Well done.

Two kinds of Narrators

I think Michael Connelly gets better with every book. This timely story encompassing the opioid crisis as well as the corruption of the law by unscrupulous lawyers provides a great platform for his characters to really develop and entertain. This extremely brief review as prompted by another reviewer who simply hated the narrator, Titus Welliver and I felt I had to come to his defense. I simply love this guy's voice and tempo. I feel he gives the series a distinctive and welcome tone.

Bosch is back

Connelly has again provided another part of the HarryBosch saga by blending different cases into the book. Enjoy the twists and turns along the way.

Bosch, one of the best characters of all time.

I am a little sad after finishing this one. Harry is getting old and his journey will have to end sometime. I hope when his story comes to a close, or he really does retire, that his daughter picks up where he left off. It would really be cool if she became a detective and had Harry help her in the background. You know Harry will never be happy in retirement. He can't just sit idle! With that said, this was another great Bosch/Haller story. Whenever I am reading a Bosch story, I cannot wait to get back to it to devour it. My attention never wanes throughout the story. I love me some Bosch! I read the audio version of this one and loved it. Titus Welliver is fantastic. He nails Bosch's character and does a terrific Mickey Haller too. Good stuff.
