Publisher's summary

The electrifying sequel to One for Sorrow, by the Wall Street Journal best-selling author of Silent Child.

Leah Smith has a new name, a new job and a new home. The sleepy seaside town, Clifton-on-Sea, is a refreshing change from the gloomy moors of Yorkshire. She couldn’t be farther away from her serial killer stalker.

Or so she thinks....

A new name isn’t enough to make her forget her past. Leah must come to terms with the events that occurred at Crowmont Hospital, especially when police discover the mutilated body of a young woman. Leah and Tom struggle with the consequences of their actions on the moors and how they may have led to murder.

While a serial killer is on the loose, Leah throws herself into solving a different puzzle. She meets George, an elderly local man who suffered a heartbreaking childhood. In 1944, when George was just 10 years old, his mother perished in a fire at the family home. His sister, Abigail, went missing during the fire, presumed dead. Abigail’s body was never recovered from the ashes.

Twenty years later, George received a photograph of a young woman bearing a striking resemblance to his sister, Abigail. Perhaps she didn’t die after all.

George is not a well man, and time is running out to uncover what happened to little Abigail. Leah is drawn into the mystery, keen for any distraction from her own troubles. With assistance from George’s grandson, Mark, she vows to help. But even as she immerses herself in George’s tragic past, she can never escape the one name that haunts her nightmares: Isabel Fielding....

Great story

I’m really enjoying this audio series. Book 2 was just as good as book 1. Can’t wait to get book 3

It continues!

I enjoyed the first book, but I think both books could have been combined into one. It felt like the cat and mouse chase was repeated unnecessarily. The side story seemed to have been added just to extend the length of the book. The main character suddenly resolves a decade-long problem within two weeks, even though she doesn't seem to have any control over herself, either emotionally or physically. The ending becomes very predictable after just a couple of chapters.

On the run

Protected but not safe. This is how Leah and Tom felt when placed in the witness protection program and given new names. They no longer felt safe from Isabel even after moving away. They had to live like ghosts living outside the lines of society forced to live constantly on the move.

Narrator:
Jasmine Blackbarrow narrated Two for Joy. Her performance was stunning. I give her a standing ovation. The sound quality and tone was ideal. She really brought this story to life. The British accent was spot on.

Overall :
I liked how Leah and Tom behaved suspiciously lending towards a more exciting possibility.
The distraction that was created for Leah’s character was clever and interesting. Although I was a tad disappointed how much time was spent addressing this other plot. I wanted something more substantial from Isabel’s character and her hunt to find Leah. It felt a little anticlimactic with how it was resolved and concluded between Leah and Isabel.
It was still an exciting read especially with Isabel’s point of view.

Performance kept me on the edge of the seat

I actually wondered many times throughout listening, if I would be AS on the edge of my seat, if I were reading the book myself. Absolutely fantastic performance! I began with Poison Orchids, which crept into my mind at work, and anytime I wasn't able to listen. Then looked for other books from the authors, and found One for Sorrow ~ and was hooked! The story and the way it's written, coupled with the performance makes this series of books difficult to walk away from! If you enjoy psychological thrillers, I recommend starting from the first book and keeping on. This will most definitely keep you on the edge in suspense, and chill you to the bone!

The best series ever on Audible

Truly. This is the first time I have been moved to write a review for a book. I rarely ever read/listen to a book twice, but this one I did - and the first one. Am about to start the third one now. EVERYTHING is amazing and Isabel is just fabulous. Great work by the Narrator too - at first I found the accent a bit annoying but it's the proper accent for the story/setting.

Read them and you'll never look at magpies in the same way again,
