About this listen

Brace yourself for the most electrifying, adrenaline-fueled mission yet with USS Lincoln — Mercy Kill by Mark Wayne McGinnis.

Caught in a deadly game of interstellar cat and mouse with a new and vile alien enemy, Captain Galvin Quintos will be forced to make choices no US Space Navy Captain should ever have to make—including who among those he cares most about should live or die. A cosmic storm is coming, one that has already decimated the long-lost crew of USS Lincoln. Has USS Adams already fallen into the same perilous trap, poised to succumb to the same fate? Has Doctor Vivian Leigh finally had enough uncertainty aboard a military warship? Is it time to bid farewell to a three-hundred-year-old ChronoBot friend?

Put up the "Do Not Disturb" sign, grab a bag of popcorn, switch your phone to silent, and sink into that favorite chair of yours...you're in for a long night.

Needs Re-direction

Mark Wayne McGinnis is one of the most talented independent space opera authors publishing today. I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series as well as many of the books in his other series, and quite frankly I will read anything he writes in the future.

But this review is meant for Mark’s eyes only. In the previous book in this series, “USS Adams”, Mark introduced an element of time travel into the plot. I won’t give any more details to avoid spoilers, but this time travel element was a huge mistake. Time travel ruins almost anything it touches, and USS Lincoln is, unfortunately, not immune to its poisonous touch. Mark, I beg of you, get rid of this poison in future novels. I don’t care how clunky or retcon-y the narrative requires to remove the time travel element from your books, but please, please do so as it not only destroys the stakes and the character motivations by becoming a deus ex machina element, but it makes nonsense of the story without writing epicycle upon epicycle (to mix my metaphors). Please axe this element as soon as possible.

fascinating story degraded by change of voice actor

after listening to the six prior books the change in narrators was jarring. particularly Quintos and Hardy ... it was a real effort to be able to recognize characters.

not that Pirhalla is a bad narrator his is different.

the series is always interesting and keeps me listening....though if Cronin is not available to narrate I'll read the book instead

Difference in person reading story.

Person reading this story was not the best. The book before this one was great.

Please bring back original narrator for future books.

As many have noted, while the new narrator is fine, he doesn’t bring the youthful Galvin we all have grown to love. His timing doesn’t play well with the Hardy - Q verbal sparing. I have just started Franklin and the new narrator has already killed the pronunciation of crew members names.

Thanks for fixing the “niece” thing. It was driving me nuts.

Whyyy

I really wish you hadn’t changed the narrator for the final book of this series even if you were gonna have him do the spin off series.

uhhh why?

Why would you change readers for the last book? why all the time travel crap? So many other why's. This is the first ever book of his I've struggled to get through and ultimately disliked. I don't think I'll be continuing this series as this isn't what I signed on to read about. I wanted space ship scifi, not time jumping space opera. Sorry dude.
