About this listen

Five-time Christy Award winner Lynn Austin is acclaimed as “one of the genre’s best historical fiction novelists” (Library Journal). Set in Brooklyn, New York, during World War II, While We’re Far Apart is a brilliant blend of captivating characters, heart-tugging emotions, and vivid spiritual truths. While a motherless girl longs for her daddy and a young lady hopes for a second chance at love, this poignant tale explores the uncertainty that stalks the homefront as the “War to End All Wars” rages in Europe.

Critic reviews

"Esther Shaffer, 12, mourns her dead mother and now faces her father enlisting in the army; Penny Goodrich, long in love with Eddie Shaffer, volunteers to care for his children, hoping to marry Eddie when he returns; and Jacob Mendel, a Jewish widower, struggles to find Hashem (God) amid his loss. Their lives intersect as Jacob rediscovers his faith, Penny discovers her past and her future, and Esther begins to understand life and love. Add family drama, D-Day, the Holocaust, arson, and young love, and you'll see why Austin is so popular." ( Publishers Weekly)

Faith, trust Hope

I was touch by Jacob’s willingness to love even when his heart was broken. So much pain and losses for the Jews was a real thing.

Amazing Story of Faith, Love, Hope and Forgiveness

This is an amazing story of faith, love, hope and forgiveness. Narrator did a very good job. Lynn Austin research is outstanding so that actual factual events are intertwined within the story.

Cute book

Of course, Suzanne Toren could read the phone book and make it interesting.

Lynn Austin writes nice, easy listening books with Christian themes.

Fantastic

I feel like a broken record when it comes to my reviews on Lynn Austin’s books. The research for her historical fiction books is above reproach. What and how she writes always leaves me wanting to know more about the timeframe and non-fictional characters she writes about in her books. Her attention to detail and ability to bring historical figures to life is truly captivating. I find myself constantly researching the time periods and individuals she references, eager to learn more about the world she has created within her pages. It's clear that her passion for storytelling and dedication to accuracy shine through in her work, making her books both educational and entertaining. I can't wait to dive into her next novel and discover even more about the fascinating people and events that she expertly brings to life.
