About this listen

Wilhelmina Brewster has been a college music professor for 41 years, devoting her life to her career and never marrying. Now, after her forced retirement at age 65, she is mourning her loss and searching for something to fill the empty hours.

Widower Mike Dolan is a pilot and World War II veteran who has always lived life to the fullest. When medical tests confirm that his cancer has returned, he makes plans to take a final flight in his airplane rather than become a burden to his family. Wilhelmina accidentally learns of Mike’s final plans, and when she discovers that he isn’t a believer, she knows it’s her Christian duty to talk with him about her faith. But although she has been a lifelong Christian, she feels totally inadequate for the task of witnessing to an unbeliever.

Mike and Wilhelmina are two very different people - one figuring out how to live, the other how to die. Yet they will find themselves journeying together as they search for answers to life, loss, and faith in God.

This story builds slowly and then soars as it hits the high notes and provides the reader with reassurance about God’s promises.

A great story. Easy to enjoy. Well performed. Perfect for anyone late in life or at a crossroads.

Just the Best Story

The book was most enjoyable. Have only one complaint. As a life long pilot, it took me a minute to figure out that the many references to alternator should have been altimeter. As it was audio, I don’t know whether that error was from the narrator or writer. There was one other but it was not repeated as “alternator” was.

So many life lessons!

I enjoyed this simple novel of hope and faith in the face of death and loss. Jesus asked no more than He has already given us. It is our privilege to share our faith.

I had a difficult time getting into the story, but as it went along, I found myself relating to the characters. Sometimes sharing Salvation is difficult. Ms. Austin has relatable characters and a good story line. I shed some tears and felt my heart tug. Good job and thanks for a thoughtful story.

Made me think!

this was my first Lynn Austin book. I absolutely loved it! As long as we are breathing, God has work to do in us and through us. Lynn Austin weaves a believable, endearing story that encourages us to live our lives to the full, trusting God no matter the circumstances. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to hear another!

At first I wasn't sure about the story or the narrator but they were both perfect. Jackie Kleinheksel WAS Wilhelmina. Her voice captured her character perfectly! The whole book blessed me -- a perfect fit. I cried unabashedly as I relieved my memories with my late husband on our anniversary hot air balloon ride over the Oregon wine country. So many other points hit squarely home for me. it was amazing. Lynn Austin is a truly wonderful storyteller. I am so thankful for her many books. Always a lesson learned or reinforced.

Lovely!
