About this listen

“[January] LaVoy's ability to convey tension and intrigue makes this audiobook a captivating listen.”—AudioFile

A gripping, darkly comic novel from the national bestselling author of Bad Summer People about a team of wealthy and powerful executives on retreat in Miami when one of them goes missing . . .

Every year, executives at the trendy tech startup Aurora gather the company’s top employees for an exclusive retreat in Miami, and this year Caitlin Levy—Aurora’s newest hire—is joining the team as head of events. The benefits are outstanding: a seven-figure salary, stock shares, a discretionary bonus, limitless vacation days—what could possibly go wrong?

When a fellow high-level executive vanishes after the first night, the disappearance has the potential to derail the future of the company’s sale and cost everyone on the team millions. Now more than ever, Caitlin and her colleagues must continue the charade—partaking in team-building exercises, group brainstorms, dinners—in order to keep the future of Aurora afloat amid all the fatal speculations.

Compulsively enjoyable, Very Bad Company is a slick send-up of corporate culture wrapped in a captivating mystery.

This story felt half-hearted, and the ending seemed like the author simply didn't feel like writing the book any longer. Also, so many aspects felt shallow or unrealistic. it was ok to listen to, but I didn't feel compelled to listen like with many other books.

left hanging

For someone not interested in tech or its lingo, I found this hard to follow at times. Main character John was exhausting! Loved the narrator as always .

Ok, prefer bad summer people

Rosenblum’s “Bad Summer People” was better, IMHO. This isn’t terrible, and it was a quick audio listen. I recommend borrowing the print copy from the library, so that it’ll be easier to fall along with all of the characters, and take it on a trip with you this summer.

A bad company indeed

The story was really good, but the narration made it so much more enjoyable. The little nuances of this audio performance are what brings it to the next level, particularly how she delivers funny or sarcastic dialogue. She’s crazy talented.

January LaVoy killed it, as usual

Plot was good. I prefer more of a psychological thriller yet the comedic relief was a nice change of pace. January Lavoy is one of my favorite narrators but it was hard to keep track of all the different characters. I will say it's a good, light hearted mystery to listen too before getting invested into something heavier.

Not bad but not engrossing

I just really disliked this story. Maybe it just wasn't for me. I was going in expecting something different. This story is very much corporate drama and terrible people.

not for me

I loved the created storytelling from differing perspectives. Once you think you know how the story is going, you’re wrong and I loved it.
