About this listen

As Vita's humanity slowly drips away, monsters fallen from an island above spread throughout her home.

While she fights fellow horrors outside the city's walls, her family suffers threats from within them. Yet surely there's no problem power can't solve...and if there's one thing eating souls is good for, it's power.

Experience the adventure of this fantasy novel by Natalie "Thundamoo" Maher, uncovering the secrets of a massive world of floating islands and the dangerous entity known as the Mistwatcher that rests beneath them. Vigor Mortis 2 pairs adorable charm with deadly seriousness, an incongruous mix that pushes triumphantly forward despite the horror bearing down on all sides.

the author and narrator combo are perfect as my attention was held and I find myself caring about the characters in the story.

well written, but I hate it when the author changes perspective. it's like getting whiplash. i wound up skipping something like 10 chapters, just because they were from Lark's POV, and I couldn't give a darn about her perspective. I am just going to assume MC is dead and go about my life. No interest in book 3.

Irritating but good.

Loved the emotion present throughout, very effective

a couple quibbles - a character from the previous volume did not have the same voice which…is hardly a big deal and I’m not sure if some of the accents are necessary but…even they are fun!

very passionate reading

ONE of the better series I've listened to. I liked the chapters with Larks POV. it became sad during the last half of her POV.

loved it

the heart put into each character by the narrator is just wonderful. The writing is very well done. it gets really dark at times and the MC is definitley morally scewed. More screwed than scewed. But it is refreshing to have an MC that isn't always up their ass about being the goody 2 shoes who is always in the right. this one is definitly in a grey area dipping into the dark side many times.

really good sequel. fantastic narrator.

I'm not really a fan of the bug in this one, though the rest of the book is good writing wise. My biggest problem though is the narrator, she randomly will stop using different characters accents and tones, and considering her vocal range isn't all that great it kinda kills parts. There's even a character returning that is well established to be old and sarcastic, yet when she appears in this book she sounds a year older than Vita and completely different than the first book.

Narrator seems not into it

This is a very good listen. the story is so addictive I ended up subbing to the patreon for more chapters. the world only gets bigger. Just wait for the SCP(ish) arc in later books.

yes it's good.

I'll start by saying that Jessica Almasy did a great job with the characters and giving everyone a recognizable voice. The characters sound natural (or unnatural, if needed). My big problem was with the layout in which the story is told. The perspective shifts and interesting new characters were nice, and the theme of questionioning/developing your humanity is part of why I enjoy this series. But the transitions were a little jarring to me, and often took me completely out of the story for a while, enough so that I'd need a break before diving back in. Lark is a great character, though and I'd be interested in seeing more of her. Maybe in her own book, though?

Vita is still an awful human being, but a relatively nice monster, and I love her for that. I can't wait for the next book.

Good buuuut
