About this listen

Casting necromancy without ever learning how to isn't supposed to be possible.

A starving orphan girl named Vita is somehow managing it anyway, and she's not sure if this is going to be the solution to her life's problems or a horrifying, spiraling mess of problems she can hardly conceive.

Set in a massive world of floating islands with a dangerous entity known as the Mistwatcher that lurks beneath them, Vigor Mortis pairs adorable charm with haunting fantasy.

So I'm reading this and my wife says you are reading teenage fiction. I'm a hardcore horror fan, and while this is not that, it is quality fantasy. Everything hits home. With the Lovecraftian Elder Gods and monster threats, it skirts the edge of horror. The main character is so likable and her transformation is amazing. Read this book. Hope there is a movie. Thank me later.

Blown away!

thought I wasn't going to like it because I'm a guy and the main char was a girl, thought I might not relate, but it was actually a great book. Penelope voice annoyed me at first but you get use to it. the narrator did a great job with the emotions of the characters! would recommend

great book

my only complaint is the weird pauses and tone shifts early on. otherwise, she's the best female narrator I've come across.

not what i was expecting but really great

I wish I didn’t wait so long to listen to this fantasy book! I never felt the pace was slow or got bored when there was a lull in the story. I hope book 2 is just as good

Really Really Happy with Book 1!

This reads like a children's lullaby, a facade of innocence and childlike wonder over a core of true horror. Vivid grey conundrums lead to morbid curiosity for how dark it will go, and it just keeps descending.

Lullaby to morbid curiosity

First quarter is a bit slow ish but it's a pretty awesome story. Yog sothoth even has a Cameo (kinda but not really). definitely worth a read. on to the second book now.

Over all pretty good!

I appreciate this author’s take. She made this book impactful and funny while also disturbing. That is my favorite type of book. This book is one of my favorites already. I see a ton of books in this genre that mention nothing of how some people actually have to live or if they do they don’t do it as well. Great job. Extremely well done.

Well this author just became one of my favorites

I gave 5 stars because I am pretty sure Amazon berries most bad reviews. Half of this book is the MC keeping a fucking mind control slime in her head and talking about the ethics of mind control slimes. Like are you fucking kidding me? These slimes should have been killed no questions asked instead of subjecting the listener to the single dumbest fucking ethical debate ever. The world building and magic systems were built very well I liked the MC right up till that point. Honestly don't buy this book. The narrator did a good job.

Horrible book.

This book is great. the plot and inciting incident are separate but otherwise this was well written. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
