About this listen

Buy three novels in the best-selling War God’s Mantle Series!

The gods walk again.…

When Marine Corps pilot Jacob Merely crashes during a routine mission off the coast of Cyprus, he was sure it was game over.

After surviving the crash and pulling himself onto the sandy shores of a long-abandoned island, however, Jacob unwittingly stumbles headfirst into the ancient ruins of a dead city. Unfortunately, he also stumbles into an age-old battle between good and evil—and he is now its newest recruit.

The island once belonged to the Amazons, daughters of Ares, the God of War, and stood as the final bastion between the human world and the monstrosities of the Great Below. But Jacob’s arrival has awakened the old gods and disturbed the seal holding the ravaging darkness at bay.

Now, with the help of a sacred gem containing Ares’ power, Jacob must recreate the Amazonian defenders of humanity and fortify the island stronghold. And if he fails, Hades will unleash his army of the damned and the world of men will fall, giving rise to an age of walking nightmares.

Marine turned into god

Finished all three books, and I enjoyed the story. Great voice acting. Stopping at 3 was a smart thing to do.

Wasted credit!

I can't believe I slogged through the first book, but I held out hope that it would get better.
It didn't.

Death by a Thousand Annoying Tropes

DISCLAIMER: I only finished book one. Couldn't bring myself to keep reading.

Armen Taylor always does a great job with his narration and the story itself was pretty interesting. That said, there were a bunch of small things that added and by the end of the first book I was really struggling to finish. There was a bunch of stereotypical gamer tropes not to mention a literal army of amazons that were programed to be in love with the main character (because of course they were), the mandatory alien-colored hot chick (blue this time), and more. And ironically for a book about the god of war, the combat isn't that great.

But if you want a psuedo-harem RPG and don't mind all the gamer tropes, then give it a shot!

Just boring

This story is just boring, the main character is just dull. A couple of fine points do some research please. The US military has not used the 1911 since the mid 80’s or napalm just lazy righting. The narrator just is annoying everything he does he makes the characters sound like a arrogant jerk.

Just couldn't get into it

The biggest problem I have with the book is the interaction he has with his nemesis. It's just childish and unbelievable and for that reason I just can't even finish the book past halfway. I'm just going to try to return it.

Worth the credit

There were some thing I didn’t care for, but the overall writing and performance earned my stars. I think it is important to remember my personal preferences may not be yours this is a complete series for a single credit.
