Publisher's summary

The business-IT wall must come down.

With A Seat at the Table, thought leader Mark Schwartz pulled out a chair for CIOs at the C-suite table. Now Mark brings his unique perspective and experience to business leaders looking to lead their company into the digital age by harnessing the expertise and innovation that is already under their roof: IT.

In the war for business supremacy, Schwartz shows we must throw out the old management models and stereotypes that pit suits against nerds. Instead, business leaders of today can foster a space of collaboration and shared mission, a space that puts technologists and business people on the same team.

For business leaders looking to unlock their enterprise's digital transformation, War and Peace and IT provides clear context and strategies. Schwartz demystifies the role IT plays in the modern enterprise, allowing business leaders to create new strategies for the new digital battleground.

It is time to change not only the enterprise's relationship with technology, but its relationship with technologists. To accelerate, enterprises must bring technology to the heart of their work, for just as technology is causing this disruption, it is technology that provides the solution. Unlike Napoleon, it is time for business leaders to come down from the hill atop the Battle of Borodino and enter the fray with the technologists, for that is where the war will be won or lost.

Excellent history of Business and IT relationships

This book is so good that I bought multiple copies and shared with colleagues at work. I even sent copies to the entire C-Suite.

Fantastic

Full of insight, great ideas, and many quotable phrases. This is not just a redo of A Seat at the Table. There just isn’t a book focused on enterprise transformation.

Another fantastic read from Mark

Great book again from Mark Schwartz, the audible version was available two weeks ago, so was able to do a head start on reading it before it was available on Kindle. It is a "Seat at the Table" on steroids. Rather than an inside-out view of Agility from a technology perspective, this book flips the outside-in view from a business perspective, as should all agility should be looked up as - a road to business value and nothing but! A must read!!

Why IT in large organizations is so rarely successful

Mark is one of the very few authors who addresses the challenges of building systems in large non technical organizations. He does it in a highly entertaining fashion, assuming you are not one who relishes bureaucracy. This and his other books should be required reading for every business and technology leader. I wish I had found it earlier in my career!

For the Business Leader Who WANTS to Understand IT

As an IT professional I can attest that the information in this book is spot on. Where you as a business professional might not completely understand everything in this book, you are more likely to be seen as someone who can successfully bridge the divide between business and IT that seems to be all too common. And that ability will make you valuable and a more capable and cross-functional leader.

Good IF you can get past the narrator.

The narrator tries WAY too hard on this. Possibly the worst I've heard in all of the audible books I have listened to.
