About this listen

A gentleman and a very improper lady are bound together by a passion that crosses the line between upper class and underworld in Caroline Linden's daring new romance...

After a wayward youth, David Reece, the youngest scion in a noble family, has been called one of the most scandalous rogues of the ton. What he wants to be called is trustworthy and a true gentleman. To prove he has reformed he's agreed to watch over his absent brother's estate and signet ring. All is going swimmingly until highwaymen waylay his coach and steal that precious ring...

Street orphan Vivian Beecham has grown up a pickpocket, and a very pretty one indeed. Now she and her brother have reluctantly graduated to highway robbery. And handsome David Reece has become their victim - until he tracks her down and makes her his prisoner. Locked in a spare bedroom, Vivian vows to hate her captor. Instead she becomes a former rogue's greatest challenge: the object of a passionate seduction. But David and Vivian are playing a dangerous game in which forbidden love is a wild card . . .

Far fetched

Locking a young lady in a room in your house just to find out where your stolen ring may be is not only a bit extreme but is also ridiculous . Faster ways to get the same information were plentiful and more interesting. The lockup did provide time for David and Vivian to get to know each other and their relationship to progress albeit irritatingly slow and superficial. Finally the last third of the book provided conflict, confrontation, and an unlikely resolution.
The narrator was good, easy to listen to, and successfully synced characters emotions with her voice inflection. I recommend this book to readers/listeners looking for a slow romance with little intrigue accompanied by a good narration.

Just Okay

Not sure if I was having a preoccupied day or if this story dragged. I loved the male character from previous book but this story didn’t gel for me. Female lead wasn’t my favorite. But love this author so I hung in there.

It's OK

I like the characters, and the plot has/had potential, but it was not as interesting as the first book.

Very good

Book 2 in series and it’s just as good as book 1. The stories are solid and keep you engaged throughout. The narration is done well

Not as good as first one

David’s story is lame. He locks her in house, takes her to the theater, leaves her alone and she doesn’t try to escape? The movie - Pretty Woman did it better. The duke’s story was a much better, well thought out story. Also, Vivian had the signet ring but didn’t the next day? It is never explained. Ugh

Carolina Linden has a way with words.

So, the ner do well twin brother meets his match. He is on the receiving end of trouble instead of causing it. What's a rogue and a villain to do?

Most interesting … not your usual aristocracy romance novel.

When I realized the first book was part of a trilogy I could hardly wait to get to the second book. I was not disappointed. Taking up with the Reece Brothers on their romances and adventures, I found the second book to be as enjoyable as the first. And it is so nice to find out how Marcus and Hannah from the first book are doing months after their wedding! After being very upset with David at the end of the first book, it was nice to see he had some redeeming qualities upon starting this book. Unfortunately, you don’t see those qualities right away but you see his intent to change from being a bad boy so you keep hoping for him and you push on listening instead of putting the book down. This is because of Ms. Linden’s writing talent. You just know you shouldn’t give up on the book.
The narrator continues to have problems with asking questions when there aren’t any but I continued listening on 1.1 and it does help.

❤️ this one better than book 1

❤️❤️❤️ I loved this book. Characters well written. Very funny situations. Had he just waited until the morning he would never have met his HEA lady-love

Lost interest

This is book 2 of the series and I had hopes of it also putting a different spin on an often told tale. The first book is so much better that this one left me too disappointed to finish it. Maybe it gets better, so I’ll eventually try the 3rd installment to see where the Reece family saga goes. The narrator does a good job so it is not a painful listen if you have more patience than I do.
