About this listen

Kickstart your dream business and see it through to success with actionable advice and inspirational stories from entrepreneur, investor, YouTuber, and founder of HelpBnk Simon Squibb

From early on, we are taught that there's only one path to getting ahead: do well at school, get a certain kind of job, and avoid failure at all costs. We're so busy trying to follow these rules that we never stop and ask ourselves: What's my purpose? Is my 9-5 really what I want to do? What kind of job or business do I really want to pursue? Do I have the power to make it happen? With Simon Squibb’s incisive new book, you can make it happen.

Simon Squibb is on a mission to help young entrepreneurs discover their passion and start their business. Drawing on the hard-won life lessons from Squibb’s years in the business world and his own personal life—from facing homelessness as a teenager to selling a multi-million pound business—What’s Your Dream? is the step-by-step guide to turn your dream venture into a reality. Squibb begins by providing a definition of a dream and continues on to introduce readers to a set of tools to build confidence and persevere through the barriers that stand in the way. Squibb will dissect the common pitfalls that block the way—being trapped by aspirations that aren’t true dreams, falling prey to popular myths that stop us from achieving our goals, giving into the fear that prevents us from taking action—and share the secrets to overcome them. Young entrepreneurs will glean useful business insight, such as:

  • how to assess risk level, understanding not to take risks indiscriminately but to take them well
  • knowing how and when to quit so you can pivot and start again
  • how to create a community of super fans who will purchase and advocate for all of your products
  • how to grow your customers, and more

Achieving wealth shouldn’t mean sacrificing your dreams and passions. This book can show you how.

Paradigm shift for goals. Money to purpose

It’s a great book on finding and executing on your purpose. If you can spend your time doing things you love, you won’t want a work life balance. Rather you’ll look for work life integration

Motivational and practical

This book is distilled version of what the author talks about all the time on social media. I love how this book is laid out practical takeaways to get your mind going and start thinking differently to get out of traditional thinking patterns.

A life changing experience

I'm not quite sure where to start, but I got the audio book for myself and one for my 20 year old son. Not only was this an incredible reminder for myself that you're never too old to find your dream, but even more, I see a little bit of life and hope flicker in my son. He's already starting to think out of the box and do more soul searching and he's only listened to the first few chapters so far. I'm excited to see what his dreams are as he's listening and rethinking his own journey.

Waiting Won’t Get You There

Simon Squibb does not just talk about chasing dreams. He shows you how to build them. This book is a wake-up call for anyone stuck in the ‘someday’ mindset.

Biggest takeaway? “Don’t burn the boat. Build the boat.” That shift alone can change everything.

Packed with raw failures, real wins, and no fluff lessons, this book challenges you to take action, pivot when needed, and create your own luck.

If you are done waiting and ready to bet on yourself, this one is a must.

A refreshing take on how to pull yourself UP!

I own over a thousand audiobooks, most of them in the self-help, personal development genre. After a while, most authors all say the same things.

Up until a week ago, I had never heard of Simon Squibb until some of his YouTube videos attracted me. I gave the book a try, because his approach seemed much different. Having also recently listened to "Buy Back Your Time," by Dan Martell, I liked that Dan came from a really hard place. Simon, too, was very young when his father died, and then left home and went off on his own. I really respect authors who didn't just have the win "handed" to them at birth; he had to fight for everything, like most of us attracted to reading these books.

This audiobook has some mindset principles you'll find in other books, and I got the most out of Squibb's real-world examples from his actual attempts to help random people like you and I realize their dreams. What surprised me the most is that they're not all success stories. Often, he put in the work to help people start their dream restaurants, a sort of "once in a lifetime opportunity", only to have them disappear and ghost him.

In chapter 5, in the What Is My Pain section, he says, "Knowing that I like talking to people, and wanted to help people, were important parts of understanding MY dream. But they weren't sufficient on their own. I also needed something that I think is vital to every dream, and the purpose it contains. I needed to tap into my pain."

Chapters like this make this book very real and relatable. Through stories of figuring things out on the street, and enduring times when no one was there to help him, Simon shows that pretty much anyone can make it. His personal story is bundled into a value offer welcoming listeners to join his site (Helpbnk) or (elevatorofdreams.com): a platform for throwing your ideas out there freely to possibly find mentors or people willing to invest. (Sort of like an everyman's version of Shark Tank).

A lot of books offer advice and coaching, but few actually offer you an additional value like Helpbnk in the REAL world.

Overall, a great book. Narration was perfect. It was exactly the right length. Instead of just telling you theory, he offers ACTIONABLE steps, such as "petition people for sponsorship BEFORE you're big."

And he offers a platform to actually pitch your ideas. All in all, a big win for an audiobook.

Excellent book!

Unconfortable truths delivered in a gentle and caring way. I normally breakup my book listening by listening to podcasts in between but I listened to this non-stop.
