About this listen

He's the biggest jerk in the galaxy.

I can live with being stuck on the far end of space. I can live with having to spend weeks on an abandoned station in an asteroid belt. Sure, I don't belong, but I've got my book and my eight-legged attack cat with me. I should be fine.

I'm not fine.

My alien host, Jerrok, is a jerk. He's surly and unpleasant. He hasn't bathed in years. He's part cyborg - and all those parts seem to be falling to pieces. He's the one in charge of this remote station, which means we're forced to interact. It's an absolutely miserable situation for both of us...until I realize that all his anger and bluster is covering the fact that he's thoughtful and understanding. He's protective, too, keeping me safe when the bad guys approach. When I get hurt, he's the one tenderly caring for my wounds. Jerrok is also intensely, utterly lonely, just like me.

As time passes, I start to wonder...maybe where I belong isn't a place...but a person.

Contains mature themes.

Four stars

This was a five-star read that was brought down to a four by a couple of things. I enjoyed the setting and the premise, along with the development of the relationship between the MMC and FMC. The gradual buildup to their feelings for one another was done well.

What I didn't like was how callous the FMC's inner thoughts were regarding the MMC at the beginning. He is doing her a favor by letting her stay at his place, but because he's not sweet and let's her know he finds it bothersome he's not alone, she would be okay if he got killed? It's not like he harmed her or did her wrong in any way. He's a loner and doesn't like company. This almost made me DNF the entire book because it's pretty crappy of the FMC to think that way but I just pretended she didn't think that and moved on.

The last quarter or so of the book started moving at a slower pace even though it technically was supposed to be moments full of tension and action. The events of the story just didn't land with me and caused me to lose interest.

Overall, the bright spots of this book outweigh the dull spots, resulting in an entertaining story.

One of my favorites

Wonderful story and fantastic narration. The voices were perfect. I already love this story and was excited to try out the audio book for it . Was not disappointed.💗

Grumpy Meets Sunshine Meets Murderous Pet Cat 3.5

This story has been the best in what has been a rather disappointing series for me. I love the couple of Sophie and Jerrok (the jerk) and Sophie's adorable, protective, blood lusty alien cat. Their chemistry is great though at times the conflict because neither will speak their real desires is drawn out a little long. The spice is spicy and amazingly character driven. And although Ruby made a note about writing the story in the kindle version (recommend reading them for the author's notes) where she mentioned that audiences complain about the character Bethiah who makes a cameo in this story--I adore the wild bounty hunter and her appearances. But I have to say as much as I have come to love Mason's narration of these stories I just never can get used to Jillian's YA sounding voice. It makes me so sad every spicy scene she reads and almost wish Mason would read the entire story. I almost want to say I will be a good girl who will write good reviews if we could let Mason read it all or perhaps have Hollie jump in and narrate for these as well. But I digress. I would love to see more stories like this to improve my enjoyment of the Risdaverse tales. The struggle and ultimate consummation of this couple was a joy to listen to and sets up lots of future characters well.

Rocking series!!

This book is absolutely fantastic. It has a quirky human female and her wounded alien lover. Great book with lots of steam.

I like this . . .

I like that Sophie and Jerrok didn't immediately fall for each other. They took their time. The grumpy/sunshine trope is one of my favorites and this is definitely that 😊🙃 along with a bit of forced proximity 😁 *chef's kiss*

Had to got back and see how this story links with the other Corsair’s books. Well worth it. Bravo Rudy.

sweet listening!

I enjoy all of Ruby''s books, but especially when they are on audio. Sometimes I think there are too many long drawn out sex scenes. (was that a pun?). But I think sometimes it is good to leave a little to the imagination.
I hope Ruby continues her excellent writing career!

Slow Burn.

A simple sweet story that I enjoyed all the way through. It takes a bit for these two wounded souls to get together and then longer to get on the same page that they both want the same thing. I had to laugh when the heroine kept calling him Jerk and he thought she couldn’t figure out his name. Narrators are great.
