About this listen

The room is dark, except for the streetlights coming through the blinds. I can barely see her, but I feel her. She pushes me up against the wall, and we kiss harder than we ever have before. I’ve been waiting so long for it to happen, and finally, it’s going to. Then the bedroom door flies open, and someone screams her name....

Britton Walsh has never had a home. After a lifetime in the care system, she doesn't expect she’ll ever find one. But beginning her senior year with new foster parents, in a new city, means starting over - yet again. Tom and Cate Cahill seem okay. The hitch? Their daughter, Avery.

Beautiful, popular, and cool, Avery is everything Britton is not. She’s all Britton could ever ask for in a sister, or even a friend - but having survived without either for so long, Britton knows the way her heart races whenever Avery enters the room can only mean one thing....

But Avery has a secret. Something that is eating away at her and stopping her from letting anyone in, least of all Britton. Will Avery’s insistence on punishing herself for a mistake in her past make Britton's last year of high school, and finding a place to call home, impossible? Can two people so different ever find common ground, friendship, or maybe even something more?

An unforgettable new adult lesbian romance for fans of Keeping You a Secret by Julie Anne Peters, Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen, or Nancy Garden’s classic young adult coming-out novel, Annie on My Mind.

New adult novel: recommended for 17+ due to mature themes and sexual content.

Two bright young women from very different backgrounds are thrown together in their senior year in high school. One has experienced the harsh and self-doubt provoking worst aspects of the foster care system since she was abandoned at birth. The other comes from an affluent home with caring and engaged parents who also privately suffered a loss that is every parents’ nightmare. Kristen Zimmer’s strong characters, psychological insights, and intriguing plot twists make for a memorable novel in which love and appreciation of life prevail. And although Abby Craden is my favorite narrator, Lynn Norris lends her first-rate performance to this audio book.

Charming, yet sometimes painful, story of discovery

Funny, witty with a sprinkle of sadness. This books has it all, love, friendship, forgiveness, being your true self and a great storyline. I loved it!

Loved the storyline and beautiful story. Loved how the relationship unfolded and the family values were so greatly represented. The love it exhumed was so sweet.

Absolutely loved this book and the narrator was so good! The story had depth and was a very accurate portrayal of PTSD and queer identity.

Phenomenal

The book was okay, I can’t believe I finished it, it was not my thing whatsoever. Big thing is it reads like the author is in high school. Not only is the story about high schoolers it sounds like it’s written by one. The words lulz and jelly as in jealous, and “wheels” are spoken. Very YA. I don’t mind YA, but I suppose I prefer a more mature tone? This book was too sunshine and rainbows. Nothing heavy, no angst, just so very cheesy.

I’m 35 if that helps. :/

Too young for my taste.

While being emotional & confronting about the foster systems failings, the story also shines a fantastic light on what love can do.
Solid read for anyone wanting a little dark mixed in with a happy ending.

Deep yet fluffy
