About this listen

Joshua Miles has spent his early 20s spinning his wheels. Working dead-end jobs and living at home has left him exhausted and uninspired, with little energy to pursue his passion for graphic art. All that changes when he meets Gemma Henare, a vivacious out-of-towner from New Zealand. What begins as a one-night stand soon becomes a turning point for Josh. He can't get Gemma out of his head, even after she has left for home, and finds himself throwing caution to the wind for the first time in his life.

It's not long before Josh is headed to New Zealand with only a backpack, some cash, and Gemma's name to go on. But when he finally tracks her down, he finds that his adventure is only just beginning. Equally infatuated, Gemma leads him on a whirlwind tour across the beautiful country, opening Josh up to life, lust, love, and all the messy heartache in between. Because when love drags you somewhere, it might never let go - even when you know that you have to say good-bye.

Contains mature themes.

I really enjoyed this story. The narration was great and the storyline flowed nicely. I have enjoyed everything I've read and listened to by Karina Halle.

this is one of those books that keep you coming back. in my opinion it is not only a steamy romance but it had it's inspirational and educational moments. my favorite part is the German guy and Josh talking in the Pub. really deep conversation that I didn't expect from two guys. and I now want to backpack 🎒 around New Zealand 🗺️🚃 for Christmas 🎅🎄LoL. this is a must read. 😍😍🙏

not just a romance novel

I had hoped that after Josh went all the way to find her that the story would get interesting but it really didn’t. They ended up jumping each other’s bones every ten pages and it just got incredibly boring. I got past Xmas which was nearly toward the end and just gave up.

I just couldn’t finish it.

I really enjoyed this. The narration was great and the story kept me interested the whole time. My only complaint is that there wasn’t an epilogue. I wanted a glimpse of Gemma and Josh and their life after they finally got together.

Great finding yourself story

this is my favorite so far of this author. heartfelt complex characters, bitter and sweet. landscape descriptions were beautiful and emotions of travelling were raw and felt honest.

the native familial aspect was refreshing, not a huge part of the story line but a great reference point for the setting.

it felt a little long at some points, but I didn't really mind. the narration was lovely, I am a huge Nelson Hobbs fan for those sweet male characters and he did not disappoint here.

the steamy factor didn't seem over the top. not innocent by any means and a bit dirty with the language, but not overkill, much more to the story than sex. it still gave me the vapors every time they got together - the tension and chemistry between them was well written!

all the feels

The narrator's were great. I've heard them on other audiobooks and I enjoy their voices.

The story however, I was so bored. This felt like a tourist guide book with how many places were visited and how the descriptions were. These places sound beautiful but that wasn't what I was hoping for in a romance.

For the most part I liked Gemma and Josh, the only time I didn't really like Gemma was when she got ticked at Josh for the 1 grope session with Amber. Gemma was with Nick and having sex with Nick but she's getting all indignant over the moment Amber and Josh had.

Sad I didn't enjoy this more. Still look forward to reading more by Karina Halle though.
