Publisher's summary

Take all the suspense and sexual tension of The X-Files, combine it with the charm and antics of Supernatural, and you get Darkhouse. Well, not quite.

Dex and Perry might have the chemistry of Mulder and Scully and the scares of the Winchester Brothers, but I promise you this duo is unlike anything you've seen before.

When 23-year-old Perry Palomino explores a supposedly haunted lighthouse, she runs into Youtuber Dex Foray, a sexy, snarky, and opportunistic ghost hunter who doesn't quite believe in ghosts. What Dex does believe in is making money and in Perry he sees a viable opportunity: create a ghost-hunting show on YouTube that would rival anything you'd see on TV and watch the dollars roll in.

But creating and filming a ghost-hunting show isn't easy when there are actual ghosts haunting them - and then some. Sometimes terrifying, often hilarious, Darkhouse is the first book in the Experiment in Terror series.

Narrator was amazing

Book was good, but the narrator was absolutely amazing. She made this book come to life in a way few narrators seem to do. Great job! Will be looking for more stuff she does

Entertaining

Once I got past Perry's insecurities and immaturity I really enjoyed the story. The narrator does a good job of bringing the characters to life. The story moves a bit slow sometimes which only magnifies Perry's awkwardness but for the most part it's a good story and I look forward to the next book.

A great atmospheric listen to this spooky tale...

A great atmospheric listen to one of my favourite series. Narrator is great, can't wait to continue. I do now have a huge craving to watch the X-Files.

slow storyline but very well narration

I struggled to finish this book because I found it boring during the first few chapters. So I decided to accompany it with audiobooks. Thankfully, Jo Raylab did such a great job that I was able to finish the book in just 2 days!

It was a good story with a fantastic narrative performance.

Entertaining

Perry is very annoying and insecure. I almost stopped listening but I'm glad I finished it. The dyort turned out to be entertaining. I'll read the next book in this series.

Narrator's voice ....

Pretty good story but I'm finding the narrator's shaky, nervous voice a constant distraction.

Waiting for the Next Book

Any additional comments?

"Darkhouse" is the first volume in a 9-volume (plus a few novellas) series published between 2011 and 2014. Right now Audible only has the 1st volume available -- I hope the rest are on their way!

Perry Palomino and Dex Foray are brought together by fate to a haunted lighthouse owned by Perry's uncle. They decide to work together to produce a ghost-hunters type show for an internet channel.

The book is a mixture of light horror with a touch of romance. Through the first volume Perry and Dex are virtual strangers -- drawn together but knowing very little of each other. They're not sure of each other, of any sort of relationship they might have, and whether they can trust each other. This unknown quality certainly adds to the suspense. But no matter how they feel, they must end up trusting each other to survive.

Their relationship is further complicated by Dex's off-screen Barbie-plastic "perfect" girlfriend, Jennifer. What will happen with Jennifer in the future?

The first volume essentially introduces us to the characters and then sets up the structure for subsequent books. It also sets up the strong chemistry between Perry and Dex, which I expect will build as we get to know them and they get to know each other. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys the Urban Fantasy/Romance genre mash-up.

And now, okay Audible.... I'm ready for the next one!

paranormal masterpiece in the making

I read this book several years ago when it came out and Karina was a new author starting her career. I was blown away with this story. this was the series I had been searching for. I wanted a ghost story story with edge. I wanted grit. I wanted a romance but not a happy ending just yet. A slow burn. A build up. A development of a story like no other.
Dex is haunted and struggles with the world. Perry sees things no one else does and together they are whole but have to fight to stay that way. Each book is an episode into this paranormal world of ghosts and demons. both real and internal. Each book getting more more explosive.
