About this listen

Award-winning filmmaker, author, music executive, and mental health champion tells all in this laugh-and-cry-out-loud memoir about her spiritual self-discovery along a star-studded path. Witch Hairs is the true story of a remarkable life and a guide to how to live it. It’s the story of true love, of how to get it and how to give it.

Dixie Gamble left a small North Carolina town as a divorced young mother of two boys and became the first female president of Elektra Asylum Music, a publishing division of Warner Bros. Records in Nashville. She guided the careers of Pam Tillis, Lewis Storey, and many others. A second marriage to one of the most storied record producers in the country led to another divorce and a deeper longing to find answers to her lifelong questions.

She found those answers, piece by piece, along a tumultuous celebrity-filled journey. On one hand dining with the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Elton John and traveling the Australian outback alone, she also experienced crushing pain for her mentally ill son and spent years searching for the human whose soul her own remembered and craved. Armed with plenty of Southern gumption and humor, Gamble takes listeners by the hand and shows them every tug at her soul and the fulfillment she found, each pluck of what was and a map to what should be. Part memoir, part atlas to the soul of the universe, Dixie Gamble hides nothing of her journey to find both herself.... And John.

"Each essential life narrative, be it light witch hairs or dark witch hairs, creates synchronicity with our soul's mission to expand. It's the natural state of the Universe and belongs to us all." - Dixie Gamble, from Witch Hairs

Includes 12 songs from the companion CD, Chiaroscuro, produced by John Jorgenson.

Sister/Soulmate

Have you ever listened to a book that made you feel like the author was a long lost sister, a soul mate that took decades to find in this lifetime? I felt that way reading Witch Hairs and I have recommended it to so many friends. I couldn’t believe how many experiences Dixie Gamble describes to which I could relate. We even have mutual friends I’ve know for decades!

I admire this author so much for taking a massive leap of faith and sharing her adventures with the world. I have had some similar happenings, as have my friends and family, and this book serves to validate them. It gives me faith in divine partnership.

I also must mention that I love the original songs that enhance the whole audio experience. What a journey!

A Treasure of A Book

Have you ever consumed a book that when it ends you are sincerely sad because it is like a friend is leaving? This was my experience with Dixie Gamble’s Witch Hairs. Dixie’s voice, as she delivers the audio version of her book, is like a warm hug with an embrace that you never want to let go. Her delicious vernacular both charms and informs as she takes you on the most incredible life’s journey. This book will entertain, educate and inspire you to reach the levels of pure introspection that Dixie has so beautifully achieved.

What a Woman!

This is a fascinating story told by someone who had to courage to live life to its fullest. I enjoyed it on so many levels. Very few books do I want to read more than once but this one I will. The music was a very nice addition and Dixie did a great job of telling her story.

Great Book.

I've had the bound version of Witch Hairs for a bit, but haven't had much time to dive into reading it. I decided on a recent long car trip that I wanted to get the audio book version. I'm so glad I did.

Dixie does a great job narrating her work, which can best be described as an autobiographical journey through an extraordinary life- though that doesn't do it justice. The audiobook has original music interspersed through the text, providing well-timed transitions to the different chapters. In the process, we come to know some of the amazing individuals who have helped shape the fabric of Dixie's life. This is really a book about family- biological, spiritual and metaphysical. The book is not presented chronologically, instead using the stories of different experiences to bring you full circle.

I found it thought provoking and moving.

Stunningly narrated audiobook

This book's narration, paired with breathtaking original music, had me at hello. The story sustained me to the end. Witch Hairs is a book that must be experienced in audio, not just read on a page.

Dixie Gamble could read a grocery list and make it sound like poetry. With a poetic cadence, this memoir flows like a novel as Dixie's beautifully authentic southern voice evokes deep emotion. Her story may be full of extraordinary experiences with extraordinary people but it is truly universal. I lived her life with her as I listened.
What impacted me most was the author's honesty. It made me realize that I have hidden my own truths to make those around me comfortable. That Gamble is able to share her intimate ups and downs inspired me to free myself with more honesty in my life.
I'm pretty sure that is what makes a great book.

The most amazing journey to get lost inside of

This is one of the most well written books I have heard in 10 years. 10 lives in one. Dixie is able to paint the journey so well that you feel like you were with her. Plus it is a bonus that she is married to one of my favorite guitarists in the world JOHN JORGENSON. It was really fun to get the lowdown on the romance as a bonus

A Special Experience

I loved this book. Dixie Gamble is not only a compelling author, she also offers anyone interested in the music business incredible first-hand insight into it’s complexities. Any woman who has beaten the odds in such a male dominated industry is someone we should all admire and hear. Ms Gamble’s reading of her inspiring story is spot on; just the right pace and articulation, with a warm Southern accent.
