About this listen

Peter Parker is caught in a complicated web. Working in a cutting-edge laboratory, he's a young scientist who's trying to make a difference. Yet he's constantly burdened by the responsibilities of his second career as the crime-fighting Spider-Man.

Wilson Fisk - the so-called Kingpin of Crime - has returned to New York, establishing himself publicly as an altruistic entrepreneur and philanthropist. Spider-Man knows better, but he can't uncover Fisk's scheme, which, if executed, will make the crime lord too big to fail.

When a new threat - a deadly doppelganger with Spider-Man's suit and abilities - wreaks havoc in the streets, can the real wall-crawler prove his innocence? With the clock ticking and lives on the line, can Spider-Man stop the brutal rampage of the Blood Spider? Will Spider-Man fall to his fears and foes, or will he rise and be greater?

Pete Cross does a good job as the story progresses it appears that he gets more comfortable changing his voice for each character.
The story is well written for a great prologue to the Insomniacs Spiderman. After listening to this book it makes me want to play the game all over again!
Could it have been better of course… does it have to be? Not really!
It was very enjoyable GOOD JOB!

Well put together

Overall, loved this. My only gripe is that it felt like the reader didn’t do his research prior to his reading. Several characters were given voices and inflections that didn’t match the characters in the game. (Examples being Shocked or Jeff Davis)
Not looking for 1:1 representation, but the distinct differences just felt jarring.

That said, I felt he was an excellent narrator, Peter Parker, and MJ. I felt he nailed Yuri as well.

Great lead-in to the game.

It's a fantastic and detailed lead-up to one of the best versions of Peter Parker/Spider-Man that I think we've ever had. It's a great story with lots of characters and their interactions. The action is well done, as is the character's interactions and their personalities. It takes place on Earth 1048, aka the Gamerverse in Marvel's multiverse. Age old characters, brand new stories.

The narrative is well put together, and leads well right up to the Marvel's Spider-Man game. If you like this, absolutely check it and the Miles Morales book and game out as well. I fully recommend them, 10/10.

Perfect lead-up to one of the best of Spider-Man

I think they nailed most things he but late in the book it’s seems spider man finds out some info out of nowhere especially about echo
Also they retell Micheal’s story like 3 times without adding anything new
Other than those small things it was an amazing story and prequel to the game.

I think it skipped a few things

it expands the universe of marvels spiderman perfectly. has a great story only complaint is sometimes concentrated more on the new people than spiderman himself.

great tie in

I really wanted to enjoy it but after hearing other books where the reader does voices and this one doesn't really change his voice it made it hard to. I should know if it's Peter talking not have to guess if it's MJ until he says "she said" or "he said"

really wanted to enjoy

Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover

Wilson Fisk has come back to New York proclaiming to be a changed man. He is investing in low income housing to help the common man of the city. Spider-Man doesn’t buy it. He has tangled with the Kingpin before.

It was a fun surprise when I realized that this is the prequel story to the Spider-Man game on the PlayStation. It does a very good job setting up the story. It was on the shorter side, but was a fun swing through New York!

Another really great Spider-Man story. This is a video game tie in, but you don’t need to play the video game. I’m legally blind and I enjoyed the heck out of this tale. It’s a good Spider-Man story. Good narration too.
