About this listen

From the New York Times and Wall Street Journal best seller

A revelation for photographers: creating a profitable business is possible without getting into a slash-and-burn price war with your competitors.

Many photographers and small business owners feel pressure to discount their products and services, especially when times are tough. After all, how else will they keep up with the low prices offered by their discounting competitors? What they don't realize is that discounting is the last thing they should be doing if they want to win big. Sarah Petty and Erin Verbeck are here to show you that there's a radically different way to run your business - one in which the owners focus on creating specialized offerings and an over-the-top customer experience, not on matching the prices of their competition. Worth Every Penny encourages you to explore and use the boutique model, which is designed to maximize your advantages over discounting competitors.

You'll learn how to:

  • Build a brand that lays the foundation for you to charge what your offerings are worth.
  • Create products, services and high-touch customer experiences to achieve healthy margins and an outspokenly happy and loyal client base.
  • Understand how to use a pricing strategy that allows you to create demand and attract the right customers instead of discounting.
  • Throw traditional advertising to the wind and implement a boutique way of marketing that's more affordable in this competitive business environment.
  • Learn the relationship-based sales skills needed to sell without being pushy and have your clients clamoring for more.

The authors' strategies are enhanced by real-life business experiences and vivid anecdotes from all types of business owners - restaurateurs to contractors to professional service providers and photographers. With the advice in Worth Every Penny, you will be inspired to live your passion and pass your enthusiasm on to your customers. The result: a profitable business that avoids succumbing to the pressure to discount.

As a photographer, looking for additional guidance on steering my business, I kept seeing this book being advertised in trade magazines. Finally picked it up at a bookstore, but wanted to listed to it while I traveled. Very good information! Has given me new direction and will start running my business in the boutique mindset. Thanks Erin and Sarah for creating this business journal for success.

this book was recommended in the season where my husband and I are scaling one business, growing another and starting another and this was just what I needed to mentally wrap my mind around "worth" and the type of businesses we want to have and be known as. very good and easy read... and the action steps were a perfect way to actually implement the nuggets from each chapter.

this was an interesting overview of the same marketing idea that is out all over facebook by other photographers: charge your worth, dont compete with shoot and burn, and be a high touch hand holding business. Good, but not great. there were some good action steps that were interesting, like writing down your brand fonts, colors etc so you never go off brand. but there are better books out there to help you market your business.

good, not much new

I have great respect for Sarah Petty. I think the book is good. But for all things good and proper in this world don’t buy the audiobook.

I don’t know who thought it was a good idea that a book written by two women should be read by men for an audiobook. There is a huge disconnect when a man reads the sentence “ I was pregnant with my twins when…”
The book is written in the first person and should be read by a woman. There are plenty of women voice actors out there. I don’t understand why they didn’t have a woman read this book.
The audiobook was so disconcerting and so annoying being read by a man that I just couldn’t get through it. Save your money and listen to her podcast or buy the printed book instead.

Buy the printed book not the audiobook!!! Trust me.
