Humans are social animals, and the impressions we make on others can critically impact the quality of our lives. Consequently, we spend much of our lives, both consciously and unconsciously, working to shape other people’s ideas about who we are. In this eye-opening 12-lecture series with Professor Leary, explore the “self-presentational underpinnings of human behavior” as well as the what, how, and why of impression management.

People form impressions of us - who we are and what we’re like - very quickly and, right or wrong, those impressions determine significant aspects of our outcomes in life, both in the present as well as the future. In just a few short minutes, others assess our personality, interests, attitudes, and moods, taking into account everything from the content of our words to the style of our clothing, and much more. Sometimes their assessments are accurate, other times less so, but the impressions other people form of us significantly impacts how they treat us.

Social interactions and the impressions that drive them are vitally important aspects of human behavior. In this compelling course, learn about how we shape the impressions other people form of us - at work, at home, in our social lives, and in the world at large.

The book is organized very well, and provides real life examples for the situations we need to be cautious about our self-persona.

I think this book is essential for those who are in direct contact with all walks of life

A relevant and interesting topic but I was not amazed, come on great courses try.

interesting but

More of a general psychology lecture versus a plethora of business application. I wouldn’t recommend if you’re using it to help you at work.

Okay

Excellent. Very insightful. Anyone who wants to know more about why we behave in the way that we do, should listen to this lecture. Should be required of everyone in leadership positions.

Must Listen.

Lecture holds dense information, yet is unpacked in a smooth flow which allows the listener to dissect the content.

Information Packed!

I had to read this book twice bruh. I really needed this book. I wish somebody had taught me this when I was younger. Because this would have saved me from a lot of trouble. I am VERY blissfully ignorant when it comes to stuff like this. This is why I read audible books religiously as a habit. Now I might actually be able to attract a girl and maintain her attraction to me without doing something stupid or weird later on. Then constantly wonder just what went wrong. All young men need this book. Reading this was the best decision I ever made. Changed my life. I wish I could find more books just like this...

This should REQUIRED taught in all schools!! 😭

Good presentation and knowledge, yet most of it already known with my common sense.

The issue for me why i gave low rate is because i don’t know how this knowledge will be useful in my daily life.

So if i asked will i recommend this audible or this audible useful: i will answer no.

Sorry :(

Great presentation but no use case

Did you know that people change their behavior to try to fit in?
Did you know that guys will do dumb, dangerous stuff to impress others?
Did you know people will change their responses based on what they think the other person wants to hear?
Really? Oh. Well, in that case, you won't learn anything from this book.
I hoped for terrific, practical tips, and was disappointed.

Meh

This is a well-ordered and well-presented course, but it is almost all simple (freshman-level) psychology and not much of a business course. Everybody knows that people front - I was looking for tips on how to front better.

More Social Psychology than Business

Dr. Leary’s presentation is crisp, studied, and entertaining. Ever wonder what motivates you to act in certain ways? Instead of saying, “The devil made me do it,” accept that image is everything, and that you’re projecting your own image onto the society around you. My doctoral dissertation was centered on an element of impression management known as ingratiation; I thought I had a steady grasp on the subject, but Dr. Leary showed me a thing or two more. Thank you, Dr. Leary. Fascinating!
