Invading troops with deadly virus. A young man fighting for his life. Will flesh-eating monsters run out the clock on America’s future?

Northern California, 1985.

Former high school quarterback Leo Cecchino sacrificed his dreams for his family. Unfulfilled by the daily grind of their ailing farm, he can’t help but feel resentment. But, he’s soon redirecting his smoldering frustration into battle rage when his small town is invaded by bloodthirsty Russians armed with a zombie virus.

Forced from his home to a secret hideaway, Leo tries desperately to spread the word and defend his country. But, with the Soviets and their ravenous puppets firmly in control, it may rest on Leo and his hastily created counterattack playbook to save them all from a grisly death.

Love them as usual!

I finished all 3 of these in only 8 days! I absolutely love everything Camille has written. Adding an LGBTQ+ character is so rare in post-apocalyptic books and it was awesome to see it! Represention matters and Camille knocks it out of the park. Thankfully book 4 is already out because I am hooked!

Overall good.

I enjoy this mostly. Don’t like the romance angels of it. It much time is spent on that crap. I don’t care about love in a zombie Russian invasion story. Also the football captain ending up with the chess club girl is ridiculous and gross. So she is so hot but not guy ever noticed before. Yeah lame. Also dating the sister of your ex is gross too. Only interested when she looked hotter is gross too. Take out this and the story would be amazing. No chess club person ends up with the captain of the football team. It never happens.

Camille Picott brings action to life!

This box set includes the first 3 books in the Zommunist Invasion series. Camille Picott brings the action in each book with well-developed characters, plot, and world-building. The story moves at a good pace and keeps you wanting more! Audio Version: This is the first time I have listened to Al Kessel and he does a decent job. Some characters sound very similar though but he does bring the story to life.

Awesome book

I loved reading the book but listening to it was just as great, I listened while doing housework, cleaning, cooking, etc. This brings a new look to an old subject, Zombies and their origins. In this series, it is Russians who brings it in and shoots people with darts to begin the spread. I won't say more cause you should check it out.

This has everything you want and more. There is romance, sadness, happiness, action pack, twists and turns. It never lets you down with every new chapter.

For the narrator, I will say they did a pretty good job, but a lot of the character voices sounded really close to another or the same voice so you can't lose yourself in your listening experience which is still fine.

Excellent action-packed Zombie series.

Having read each of these books separately when they were published, I thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Camille Picott has a talent for world building that includes not only multidimensional characters you begin to feel are longtime friends, but sufficient detail to take the reader right into the action, in this case Northern California of the late 1960s. If you are a fan of Red Dawn, The Day After Tomorrow, The Walking Dead, or Zombie stories then you owe it to yourself to grab a copy of this boxset – especially the audiobooks so you can take them on the go and enjoy the entire story as you go about your daily tasks. Additionally, with the audiobooks you get the excellent narration of Al Kessel who takes an excellent story/series and elevates it to the next level. I received a review copy of the audiobook from the author and chose to provide this review.

How the Russians created a virus to turn Americans into zombies .

Zommunist Invasion
Books 1 - 3
By Camille Picott

Camille Picott has made a specialty out of writing about zombies, and no one could be better at it than she. Her zombies are not just the slow walking, non-speaking brain eaters we are all familiar with. Well, some are, but she also comes up with new variants, like fast runners, those with extra dense muscles for superior strength, and even fairly intelligent beings who can not only speak but also are capable of planning and using weapons.

In Zommunist Invasion, the baddies have been created in Russia in the 1950’s and sent to invade the USA. There are of course no cell phones, no computers, and very little in the way of technology. Because of the current situation in the Ukraine, this series, and advertising for it, has been banned in Eastern Europe.

The first attacks take place in a small California town as the local football team is gearing up for a big game. An Italian American farming family, the Cecchino’s, are central to these stories. Leo, the eldest son, was a star quarterback, Antony is the current quarterback, Antony’s twin sister Lena has learned to speak Russian, and their foster brother Dallas, along with Mr Cecchino and the kids grandmother, called Nonna, are not about to let Commie bastards take over their country.

Beginning with players from their football team, the boys gather several teenagers at the Cecchino family hunting cabin on Pole Mountain to fight back. Since Cecchino directly translates to “Sniper” they chose that word as their identity. As they begin their guerrilla attacks on the Russians, they realize the invaders have a terrible weapon: they are using dart guns along with bullets, and the darts are loaded with an unspeakable virus that turns victims into zombies.

As a young child in Italy, Nonna had survived the Nazis and had vowed never to suffer invaders again. To that end, she had gotten an original copy of The Anarchist’s Cookbook, and had been collecting the ingredients for making bombs and other weapons and had stockpiled guns, knives, and medical supplies for years. And so they began.

The Snipers began making raids, disseminating information, and recruiting new Snipers. It was a dangerous proposition and they learned the hard way that anyone bitten by the zombies became one, and so they lost members of their group. The Russian soldiers had been vaccinated against their virus, and their bullets took out many people. The Snipers fought bravely. The life was hard and heartbreaking, but they were determined not to quit, ever.

These first three books of the Zommunist Invasion will be followed by more, so don’t miss out on this exciting and extremely well written series. Camille Picott won’t let you down.

Fun adventure, new zombies

Note: the narrator is terrible, but if you speed him up to 1.5 speed it’s much better.

This book reminds me of the original “Red Dawn,” at first. Family is everything. Family fights Russians together, stuff happens. Then zombies. Then new zombie type. Then another. I’m invested in the characters at this point. Enjoying the adventure!

Better than I expected

This is a good selection and held my interest until toward the end when it became a little boring. I liked the main characters for the most part, but toward the end I began to tire of them.

Absolutly Love this series

What a great take on a zombie apocalypse. Sprinkle a little bit of Russia trying to take over America, add in a Nonna who has some special skills she keeps tucked away and you have a modern-day Red Dawn. But it isn't just regular ole run of the mill zombies they have to fight. There are smart zombies as well, who love brains and are cunning and can strategize, taking over whole towns and storing people like their own personal food bank. Characters you come to love, and yes, even grieve for. Camille hits one out of the park with this series. Can't wait to get to the 4th book.

Al Kessel does a fair job of narrating. At first I thought he sounded kinda robotic, but he improved as he went along.
