The primarchs, nigh-immortal sons of the Emperor of Mankind, take the stage in a series of short stories showcasing some of their great deeds and hideous acts from across the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.

The primarch Angron: gladiator-king and Horus' lunatic attack dog. Von ihrem Hass auf den falschen Imperator angetrieben, pirschen die Night Lords durch die Schatten der Galaxis, ewig auf der Suche nach Rache für den Tod ihres Primarchen. Ihr dunkles Streben führt sie in ein brüchiges Bündnis mit den Roten Korsaren, das nur von ihrem Hass auf den gemeinsamen Feind zusammengehalten wird. Zusammen mit dieser räuberischen Verräterbande bringen sie Tod und Zerstörung zur Klosterfestung der Marines Errant. Ihre Mission: Die Gensaat des loyalen Ordens zu stehlen, um sie zu einem langsamen Untergang zu verdammen.

Die verstreuten Welten des Elara-Schleiers wurden einst durch den Eid der Einigkeit zwischen drei mächtigen Orden des Adeptus Astartes geschützt. Die Star Scorpions fielen einem Makel in ihrem Gencode zum Opfer. Die Celestial Lions wurden von der Inquisition für Sünden bestraft, die sie nicht begangen hatten. Heute, Hunderte Jahre später, halten nur noch die Emperor‘s Spears Wacht. Sie sind barbarische Wachen, die dem Äußeren Dunkeln entgegenstehen. Ezkyle Abaddon und seine Anführer kämpfen darum, die neue Black Legion im Angesicht tödlicher Bedrohungen zu vereinen. Khayon, Abaddons persönlicher Assassine, erhält den Auftrag, Thagus Daravek auszuschalten, den selbsternannten Lord der Heerscharen, der sich als Widersacher zu Abaddons Schicksal herausstellt. Gleichzeitig kämpft Abaddon gegen das verdorbene Flüstern der Dunklen Götter in seinem Geist und richtet seinen Blick auf das Imperium, wo ihn seine Bestimmung erwartet.

Auf dem Höhepunkt des Großen Kreuzzugs bestraft der Imperator die Legion der Word Bearers für die kultische Verehrung, die sie ihm entgegenbringen. Verstört begeben sich Lorgar und seine Söhne auf die Suche nach einem anderen Weg, während sie in ihrer Wut eine Welt nach der anderen verwüsten. Ihre Suche nach einer neuen Bestimmung führt sie an den Rand des materiellen Universums, wo sie auf alte Wesenheiten stoßen, die mächtiger sind als alles, was sie sich vorstellen können.
