It explores the fascinating "what if" proposition supposing the latent return of a legendary murderer, whose "signature", left upon his victims' skillfully eviscerated bodies, alerts Holmes and Scotland Yard to his unmistakable presence anew in England. Mark Twain's story, told from the standpoint of a courageous and loving she-dog, was first published in 1903. Her motives are misunderstood when she saves their baby from a fire and she is cruelly beaten....

An ancient Egyptian mummy comes to life, but not to chase anyone around a tomb. This is a science fiction story, not a tale of horror. If you look carefully, you'll find a little sarcastic humor here and there. The mummy has a story of his own to tell, and it's quite an interesting one, to say the least. Another example of Poe's fantastic imagination.
