Meet Gabe: a good guy making the best of eternity in a place not known for its hospitality. So why has his boss had a sudden change of heart?

When Gabe’s partner, Alex, takes a turn towards the good guys, it doesn’t mean life in The Nine gets better for him. His soul is leaking like the head gasket on an old Ford, and he learns there are even worse ways to spend his time then being sent to the Gnashing Fields to swim laps in the Sulfur Pools. Every Demon in the underworld is out to slurp up his oozing essence, and if he can’t seal the seepage, his struggles as a double agent in the Judas agency will be the least of his worries.

Alex has her hands full with a Freshborn Gabe. His memories are gone, and his squeamish demeanor makes her want to shove him back into the Sulfur Pools. Gabe questions whether he’s better off without his memories when a secret about Alex is uncovered, putting their partnership at risk. As if that weren't complicated enough, Gabe faces an impossible choice. Should he go against Judas’s direct orders and risk losing himself to powers so dark that Heaven and Hell combined cannot stand against them?
