Publisher's summary

One angry young man is about to take a fantasy realm by storm—or by accident—in the hilarious first book of a new series by the author of Good Boy.

Gabe Skelter has a temper, which he likes to imagine has the effect of causing people to fear and respect him. On the contrary, his pudgy, underdeveloped body and negative personality make him more your standard outcast teenager. Worse still, he kinda knows what a jerkweed he actually is.

Then, in the middle of a class trip, Gabe finds himself spirited away to Regaia: a world of magic, mayhem, and nerd-tastic adventure. Naturally, he’s completely ill-prepared. But in this realm, he’s a monstrous, muscular man of action. Unfortunately, he’s still saddled with the frightfully unimpressive brains of a teenage loser.

Now, Gabe must make his burly, bulky way in a land where the strong dominate, the powerful rule, and picking a class has nothing to do with algebra . . . and everything to do with survival.

Bristling with reckless abandon and antisocial attitude, Big Sneaky Barbarian is Die Hard with dungeons; a must-hear for fans of heavy-hitting action mixed with laugh-out-loud snark—and absolutely loaded with swears.

The first volume of the hit LitRPG adventure series—with almost 100,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Critic reviews

“This has gotten me very excited at the chance to be one of those authors quoted on a book.”—Shirtaloon, author of the He Who Fights with Monsters series and brazen Australian

“I loved every one of the words in this book! Especially how they followed one another in perfect sequence, each of them dazzling me with their sublime poise, vigor, and panache. Or at least that’s what I think I’d say if I read the thing. Are we done here now? Wait, don’t write that. Stop, what are you doing, don’t hit send . . .”—Luke Chmilenko, author of the Ascend Online series and collector of “antique” eggs

Hilarious and well done

Picked this one up after the author made a silly reddit post announcing its release. Made me chuckle enough to give this one a try and let me say, its fantastic.

Not many authors in the Gamelit/LitRPG genre can do intentional comedy. This book excels at it and still has the ability to come back to a serious tone. The narration also perfectly captured the ridiculousness of this book's whole story. He did an amazing job with the sarcasm and repetition that is common when narrating game elements. The bloopers were a nice inclusion too. I love hearing those in books when they have them.

If you like LitRPGs this is worth getting. I guarantee you will laugh as much as I did and that alone is definitely worth it

hilarious book

I honestly think this book is hilarious. I like the MCs inner and outer dialog. Johnathan McClain is freaking amazing, as always. the story gets a little off topic a few times, which can be annoying, but overall I think it's worth checking out.

amazing litrpg

I came into the genre of lit RPG because of dungeon crawler Carl and since then I've been trying to find something on the same level. even with other books everything came short until this one. I can't wait till the next books of this series come out.

Loved!

This was an amazing piece of work. Thanks to both Seth McDuffie and Johnathan McClain. Although not my usual genre, I can't wait for the next books in the series, fingers crossed.

Loved it! Please give me more.

This is one of my favorites already. Great book. The humor was on point. The darkness was on point. The adventure was excellent. And the narration was perfect. I feel like this is gonna blow up soon like DCC and HWFWM. And I hope it does. They’ve got me hooked. This is an epic series already.

Great narration and fun story.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes from here! Kinda hated the main character at first, but ended up liking him toward the end. I like when the main dude grows and develops as a person somewhat, not just gets more powerful. Loved the bonus at the end too haha, really great narration, that really helped drive the story for me.

Great Pilot to a fun new series!

Absolutely loved this book and the audio narration was fantastic! So much snark! I LOL’d so much I even had to explain why I was laughing to my wife a few times. Highly recommend and can’t wait for book 2!

20hrs good value

First off, the narration is probably the best I've ever heard, & it's probably worth getting the book just for that. And while it is true that this book is a bit long winded & most readers will not find the edge lord mc interesting, it is truly convincing and (if you're like me and listen to way many audiobooks) a nice change of pace from your vanilla mcs.

Slow is the point

Look, this reads and sounds like some guys pure adult ADHD imagination because it is. we're here for the ride, not the end. we all know that the hero man will always beat a big, bad villain guy 9.8/10 times. Now, HOW much fun are we going to have while getting there; That's right, lots.

It's verbose fun with a serious undertone. it's self-aware, like One Punch Man, this title is great.
