About this listen

"I wasn't too keen on baring my innermost fantasies. They weren't exactly clean and sweet and, besides, I didn't know if I wanted them fulfilled. Ilya wanted me to confess all so he could make my bad dreams come true. If I'd realised how well-suited he was to do that - to drag my dangerous dirty fantasy down into his dangerous dirty reality - I might have kept my mouth shut. But I didn't. I told him everything."

When Beth Bradshaw - the manager of a fashionable bar in the seaside town of Brighton - starts flirting with the handsome Ilya, she becomes a player in a game based purely on sexual brinkmanship. The boundaries between fantasy and reality start to blur as their relationship takes on an increasingly reckless element.

When Ilya's murky past catches up with him, he's determined to involve Beth. Unwilling to extricate herself from their addictive games, she finds herself being drawn deeper into the seedy underbelly of Brighton, where things, including Ilya, are far more dangerous than she bargained for.

Not worth a credit

If you liked the preview get ready for 8 more hours. I found it a little boring. Storyline and character development is week and unlike Beth there is no climax at the ending.

Not Much of a Story Here-Crude-No Redeeming Value

What would have made Asking for Trouble better?

Give us a story to follow...the bit we got was late and unresolved.

Summary: When Beth Bradshaw - the manager of a fashionable bar in the seaside town of Brighton - starts flirting with the handsome Ilya, she becomes a player in a game based purely on sexual brinkmanship.

What was most disappointing about Kristina Lloyd’s story?

Two things: Beth's behavior is disturbing and the ending was unresolved

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Sure, she did a good job.

Any additional comments?

VERY graphic and off the charts language. I do not recommend this book. I found it similar to The Marketplace.

HOT!!!! Intense erotic novel

I loved it until the end...I really wanted them to actually fall in love and cut the strangers out of their kink and continue their exploration in what they desire.
Beth gets involved with her new neighbor, Ilya, only to get entangled in an intense and dirty game of sexual one-upsmanship that sucks her farther and farther into a dark place she's not sure she wants to go. But soon she finds that she can't extract herself from it and she can't say no to Ilya, no matter what he asks of her. If you're turned on by power and humiliation, you can't go wrong with this book. One of Beth's biggest turn-ons is being cheapened and degraded, and Ilya does that to her again and again, making her feel incredibly dirty and cheap, and loving every minute of it. If you are turned on by humilation and degradation and the kind of relationship wherein the woman feels so compelled by the man that she'll do anything she's told, you'll LOVE this book.

Great dark fantasy

Where does Asking for Trouble rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I give this book a four star because the content was good, the author pushed the envelope with this one by including dark sexy content that not everyone can handle. Objectively speaking, it is a book for those who understand the difference between fantasy and reality and appreciate the dark side to lust, obsession, and possession.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Ilya, he was always one step ahead of Beth and he was perfectly described as both the bad, sexy, and ruthless yet with a bit of compassion for Beth.

What does Saskia Reeves bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator seemed a bit too proper for this dirty story lol, it was kind of funny to listen to her describe sex scenes...but she was good and later I just focused on the story, which I found very intriguing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At the end of the story I wondered if Ilya cared at all for Beth or was he just using her the entire time. I'm glad that at end, the reader finds out that Ilya cared enough to make sure not to involve Beth further.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book to those who appreciate the dark part of sex fantasy novel because this is a book that is explicit and often time not a good way lol. Nonetheless, a good story.

Jim

The sex was great! The story line was disgusting. I suppose that there really are women who crave being treated like rotten meat and men that get off in doing so. I wondered several times whether to give it up or keep listening. I kept listening to see if there was redemption at the end. There wasn't. I love good sex, but I pity people who have to go to this level to find it.

Not for the

...This is smart, raw and raunchy erotica- complexly drawn and brilliantly read- with enough plot and character development to make it good fiction as well.

Crude

If I could have given this zero stars I would. I picked it under romance but this is clearly not my kind of romance. If you dream of being treated like a hooker (and that is using a nice word), having your boyfriend urinate in your mouth, beat you, force you to have sex with all his friends and enemies then you will love this book. I’m just not into this kind of thing so I hated it. I actually can’t believe I even finished listening to it. I think I kept hoping it would get better but it didn’t.

Extremely erotic, but scary and disturbing.

From the initial phone call in chapter one, this book is very arousing. It builds rapidly into an explosive mix of hard erotic sex, insurmountable lust, and twisted desire. It gets better and better as it goes on, until a point is reached in the antique shop office where my lust begins to turn into slight worry and anxiety. I begin to start shouting at Beth, the main character, to stop being so stupid and to get out, and it raises a deeply uneasy feeling in me about whether this really is a game, or if she has got tangled up with a very nasty character in Ilya.
However, despite the uneasy eroticism, I was compelled to continue listening to the story, and found, particularly towards the end, that my lust had turned into a morbid fascination for all the characters. I found myself wondering if Ilya really was a willing participant in the orgy scene at the end, or if he had been forced there by the evil Tony. Hard to work out what is going on.

I eventually finished the book, but my initial hot desire from it left me with a deeply uneasy feeling about the whole issue of how women can be treated. To me, although the sex is pretty dirty, and I'm a very broad minded guy, I found the way in which Beth is totally used, right up to final page and the "Cuttlefish" ending, disturbing. Ilya has complete control over her at every single stage of the book. To me, that spoilt it a little, as I would have liked Beth to have had some control, particularly towards the end.

Hard to believe, but I've listened to it several times since, in a kind of morbid fascination. It always makes me think, and although deeply erotic, leaves me with an uneasy feeling.

Worth every penny

Exciting

I liked this book. Domination to the extreme. The book left me wanting more. This book is definetly for people that like kinky male dominating sex.

just bad

What was most disappointing about Kristina Lloyd’s story?

i love a kinky story but this is just written so poorly any excitement you get from the situations is ruined by the continuous mentions of prophylactics (dont get me wrong i believe books of this kind do need a mention of them somewhere a disclaimer at the beginning or in one scene, but here its very repetitive and distracting) and other superfluous nonsense that the author just has to mention right then also the character come off as crude and stupid a lot of the time its a train wreck of what could of been an alright idea
one of the few books off here that i couldn't even finish
on top of that the narrator has an irritating accent that is rather grating when you are supposed to be reading a sexy novel
