I find myself drawn to the gay/bi-awakening trope of the MM genre. This book by KC Wells is one of the top ones I've read. In this wonderfully written story, police detective Joel is mesmerized by a female impersonator/singer who uses the name 'Satin'. Joel, for his part, doesn't understand his attraction to Ross, even after discovering Satin is a man. Meanwhile, Ross is the sort of guy to fall fast and hard for the men in his life, only to be hurt by them in the end. Will Ross and Joel's fears about relationships keep them apart, or will they overcome them to get their happy ending?

My favorite aspect of the book is its lack of an angst-fest. Joel is not going around all broody about his life-changing realization. He is mature enough to know to talk to people about how he's feeling. When characters act like the adults they are, it raises my enjoyment exponentially. Ross doesn't get short shrift either. While he is a little younger than Joel, and a lot in love with love, he is a determined person, to the point of possibly achieving his dream job of dancing for the Royal Ballet. In fact, all the characters behave and interact in an appropriate and believable manner throughout. Wells delivers some stellar character development.

Seb Yarrick's narration is good. It's maybe a tad over-enthusiastic, like he's trying to make a conversation heard in a crowded room (if that makes sense), but nothing to stop me listening.

This audiobook was given as a free review copy, after I requested it. These opinions are honest and voluntary.

Joel is instantly attracted to Satin without first realizing that Satin is actually Ross, a man. Joel is a cop who has always thought of himself as straight but he can't deny his attraction to Ross. I really enjoyed the story and how it all came together. I really appreciate that Joel didn't just automatically accept his attraction and relationship to a man but instead took his time to really analyze his feelings. The narrator did an overall good job with the story and the characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

This was a fantastic story!! Joel has to admit to himself that he's bisexual, he cannot look away from Ross while he's performing as Satin. Joel and Ross have off the charts, serious chemistry! Seb Yarrick did a fantastic job with the narration!

Incredible story

Although Ross Dauntry, aka Satin, works as a lounge singer, his real love is dancing, and one of the high points of the story is his triumphant audition for the London Ballet. That aside, he and Detective Joel Hunter must navigate their way through Joel's ignorance of his bisexuality and his repeated faux pas when it comes to how he should respond to Ross, who is out and proud. Thankfully, he finally does the right thing all the way through, instead of leaving things unsaid, and they have their HEA. The story was lovely, even if Joel seemed to be a little too stereotypically slow on the uptake and thick between the ears in the matter of his relationship with Ross.

The narration I didn't like so much. Am I the only one who was constantly distracted by some of the really odd pronunciation of words by this actor, the most glaring of which was words like "tongue" being pronounced "tong"? And in that same vein, since when does the first "g" in words like "tonguing" and "longing" sound like a hard "g"? Unless I've been mispronouncing that word and others like it my entire life (which is well over half a century), that first "g" should NOT sound like the first "g" in "gingham". But our narrator consistently pronounced it that way, and I found it a HUGE distraction.

When Joel is assigned to a stakeout job at a club where Ross works as a singer, Joel never imagines how his life would change. Both men hit it off right from the start, but Joel is straight, still Ross never hides the fact that he is gay and attracted to Joel. Yet the two continue to see each other until emotions become too much and Joel must make some hard decisions about himself and his future with Ross.

Ross and Joel’s story is a beautiful tale that takes the listener on a wonderful ride about finding love and fighting to keep it. These two men have strong personalities and make a good couple. The connection that the two have is evident from the start. Seeing Joel go through his self-introspection was a nice part of their story. Their attraction is strong, and it was good to see it grow into something deeper. I enjoyed getting to see the two men find their way even if it was not always easy. Narrator Seb Yarrick does a good job of bringing these characters to life and letting the listener feel their emotions. I was pulled right in from the start and engaged all the way to the end.

Satin by K.C. Wells was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Joel, a detective, was on a stakeout at a bar with his partner. He was watching the entertainment and found he was mesmerized by her voice and beauty. Ross, a female impersonator using the name Satin saw Joel in the audience and felt the attraction right away. When Ross found out Joel was straight he was disappointed but still wanted to be his friend. As their friendship progresses they find they are really attracted to one another. I really enjoyed the sweetness and joy this book gives anyone who feels out of place or rejected because there is a part of themselves they are still discovering. The story and wonderfully narrated by Seb Yarrick who embraced the character and gave them a voice.

Wow a amazing adventure. The storyline was interesting and full of adventure. Joel and Ross are soo good together and there story is intriguing. I was so excited to listen to this story. The narration was amazing loved it.

Oh my gosh, Seb Yarrick is delighting me with these voices! K.C. Wells includes quite a variety of side characters in Satin, and Mr. Yarrick comes up with something unique and fitting for each of them.

I loved it. I had applied to listen to Denim but was sent this one instead and after reading the write up I didn't think I'd like it (I'm not normally into books where the guy claims to be straight) but I was pleasantly surprised. It was great. Joel and Ross were such a great couple. They had great chemisty and were each interesting and likeable on their own. It's a sweet read/listen with a little angst and medium heat. Great writing and interesting plot that I didn't want to stop listening to.

The narrator did a fantastic job. They had a great voice/British accent. They kept a good pace and used different voices for the characters. They did an great performance expressing all the emotions. This narrator was a perfect choice for this book.
