Books talk about sparks flying. F--k that shit. With her, it was like emergency flares mixed with jet fuel. Or maybe just straight up napalm. Only one problem: She wouldn't tell me her name or her number when she disappeared from the hotel room after the hottest f--king night of my life. Now I've had a taste of unicorn pussy - the sweetest, rarest of all pussy - and I need it again. So what's an asshole to do? I took this problem to the street, a missed connection gone viral. And when I find her? I'm keeping her.

My life was perfect. I had an amazing fiancé, a business I love, parties and balls every week, everything was wonderful…until that night. The night where everything changed. My world is crashing down around me. Everything I knew is a lie and the men, the men in the masks, tell me that as they steal me away into the night. I wake chained, scared, and alone with four criminals. Criminals who tell me I'm theirs now, theirs to steal, theirs to kill. But there is something they don’t know about me, my past shrouded in darkness.

Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Story
The day he said he'd never love me is when I vowed Quinn Miller would never break my heart again. I wanted a family - but he wouldn't give me that. As one of the top embryologists in the country, I've spent years creating babies in the lab for other people as my own dreams of motherhood fade. I'm done waiting. I decide to start the journey to parenthood alone. Then Quinn strolls back into my life, with all the finesse of a hurricane. I'm a fool to think I don't want him anymore, and one reckless night of passion ends with me pregnant by the man I swore I'd never love again.

This novel is the story of Dreyer, a wealthy and boisterous proprietor of a men’s clothing emporium. Ruddy, self-satisfied, and thoroughly masculine, he is perfectly repugnant to his exquisite but cold middle-class wife, Martha. Attracted to his money but repelled by his oblivious passion, she longs for their nephew instead, the thin, awkward, myopic Franz. Newly arrived in Berlin, Franz soon repays his uncle’s condescension in his aunt’s bed.

Published two weeks after Vladimir Nabokov’s seventieth birthday, Ada, or Ardor is one of his greatest masterpieces, the glorious culmination of his career as a novelist. It tells a love story troubled by incest, but it is also at once a fairy tale, epic, philosophical treatise on the nature of time, parody of the history of the novel, and erotic catalogue. Ada, or Ardor is no less than the supreme work of an imagination at white heat. This is the first American edition to include the extensive and ingeniously sardonic appendix by the author, written under the anagrammatic pseudonym Vivian Darkbloom.

As the novel opens, Artemio Cruz, the all-powerful newspaper magnate and land baron, lies confined to his bed and, in dreamlike flashes, recalls the pivotal episodes of his life. Carlos Fuentes manipulates the ensuing kaleidoscope of images with dazzling inventiveness, layering memory upon memory, from Cruz’s heroic campaigns during the Mexican Revolution, through his relentless climb from poverty to wealth, to his uneasy death. Perhaps Fuentes’ masterpiece, The Death of Artemio Cruz is a haunting voyage into the soul of modern Mexico.

Story
John Fowles’s The Magus was a literary landmark of the 1960s. Nicholas Urfe goes to a Greek island to teach at a private school and becomes enmeshed in curious happenings at the home of a mysterious Greek recluse, Maurice Conchis. Are these events, involving attractive young English sisters, just psychological games, or an elaborate joke, or more? Reality shifts as the story unfolds. The Magus reflected the issues of the 1960s perfectly, and it continues to create tension and concern today.

This is a reissue of National Book Award finalist Mary Gaitskill's debut collection, Bad Behavior - powerful stories about dislocation, longing, and desire that depict a disenchanted and rebellious urban-fringe generation as it searches for human connection. Now a classic, Bad Behavior made critical waves when it was first published, heralding Gaitskill's arrival on the literary scene and her establishment as a sharp, erotically charged, and audaciously funny writer of contemporary literature.

"As nearly perfect as any American fiction I know," is how Reynolds Price ( The New York Times) described this classic that has been a favorite of readers, both here and in Europe, for almost forty years. Set in provincial France in the 1960s, it is the intensely carnal story - part shocking reality, part feverish dream - of a love affair between a footloose Yale dropout and a young French girl. There is the seen and the unseen - and pages that burn with a rare intensity.

If you've ever been curious about where the term "masochism" comes from, you will find it laden in the pages of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's masterpiece, Venus in Furs, for whom the term was named. Drawn in part from his own life experiences, Sacher-Masoch's novel develops an eroticism unlike any other. The book's protagonist, Severin, is so infatuated and obsessed with the object of his desire, Wanda, that he asks to be her slave. Although hesitant at first, Wanda's treatment of Severin becomes more and more depraved, fueling Severin's own desires for cruelty.

Crazy, misguided, dangerous love
Still a better love story than "Twilight" or "50 Shades." Everyone who thinks those two "love stories" are good literature ought to elevate their game and read "Story of O." And remember: all the crazy stuff that happens in the book is fully consensual because it's all done out of love.
"Story of O" is a crazy love story. As in, no one would be so crazy as to love someone so much as to subject themselves to such torture. And yet, such is the case with O, the titular character, who allows herself to be subjugated the point where she has no name and is referred to only by that letter. While it's a well-written piece of literature, the characters are flat at best and unbelievable at worst. And then the story falls flat at the end, wrapping up in a matter that feels unsatisfying.

A character study that is dismissed as pornography
WARNING #1: If you have never read Story of O, you will want to skip the introductory chapter and the essay "Happiness in Slavery" which comes afterwards. Skip to chapter 3, where Story of O begins, then when you are finished with the novel, come back to those introductory chapters as they give you important insights into the deeper meaning of the text.
Warning #2: If you have ever used the term "problematic" to describe erotica or erotic romance, this novel is not for you. The Story of O is erotica, not romance. It is interested, at least at the surface level, in taking us through a character's sexual awakening. BUT, beyond that is a book about a woman's dark descent until she is slowly stripped away into nothingness.
Story of O has more in common with de Sade's brand of erotica than it does mass market erotic romance where HFN or HEA are expected. This is a dark and twisted but also very clever novel. It is both a love letter written to the writer's lover at the time but also a novel that can viewed through a feminist lens. The narrator is almost like a detached naturalist observing O's descent. There are hints that the author is in no way advocating for women to completely submit to men. In fact, she shows the horrors of what becomes of O as she continuously gives up her agency in service to a man.
I expected dark erotica, and I got so much more. I did research into the author, and she was a famous and respected literary critic and essayist, and it shows. Story of O is a literary work that gives us dark insights into the psychology of power dynamics, how women choose to define themselves, and the stark reality of the libertine lifestyle. We get to watch O become more twisted as the story moves along until the horror of what she has become is apparent to others. The last chapter is subtly haunting in its imagery. Well done., Ms. Reage for giving your reader the unflinching portrait of the destruction of a woman disguised as an adoring love letter.

Wow, what a well written slave story that was shocking, erotic, and brazen. I can only say with absolute certainty that lifestyle is way beyond my compression and further I felt twisted internally by what O would have considered joyous and I found immensely sad. I only recommend this if you are prepared to be stricken by immense emotional upheaval. It's not for the faint of heart.

Very well done/read
The story itself is unique and interesting. BDSM is such a fluid concept despite the disciplines exacted in its lifestyle that to gain an insight into one person’s experience is thought provoking. The narrator I thought brought out the story in an exquisite way.

Sad and disturbing
The character deserves more feelings. I felt that O deserved a greater life. Was not a fan of the ending. The more I read it, the more I kept waiting that it will get better but nope. I don’t understand the point of a book like this. It’s like she existed, that’s it. O never really lived through the story, which is why it is sad.
