About this listen

Maddie Faraday's life would be perfect if it weren't for her cheating husband, her suspicious daughter, her gossipy mother, her secretive best friend, her nosy neighbors, and that guy she lost her virginity to 20 years ago.

In Tell Me Lies, Jennifer Crusie dishes up a funny, sexy, suspenseful novel about small-town secrets, big-time betrayals and the redemptive power of love, laughter and chocolate brownies.

Critic reviews

"A jaunty tale of love and murder...the plot springs some genuine surprises...there's enough intrigue and scandal here to make a small city stay home." ( Publishers Weekly)

Light, Fun Read

I always enjoy Crusie's work. She has a way of making me laugh. I admit that in the middle of the book it didn't seem like her normal work or "style" but after a little research I found that this seems to be an earlier book. Still, it was fun to read and easy to listen to.

My hats off to Ms. Crusie for her talent.

loved it!

Jennifer Crusie is always entertaining, interesting and exciting. This story has just enough twists and turns to keep you hanging and rooting for the heroine. The narration is superb, the pace is perfect.

Weak mystery, Ok romance

The mystery hinged, in part, on the woman's insistence on hiding much of the evidence, which made very little sense. One of Crusie's weaker efforts.

Still a good book!

This is the book that got me back into reading almost 20 years ago. Glad I read it again. I had forgotten so much. It was funny and a good who done it. I do love the character development of the main character. A woman becoming herself!

I read the reviews after I bought the book

I was like oh no but I have to tell you I really enjoyed the book. I am new to this author and I must say I am very pleased. I thought the story was easy to follow and the narrator was excellent

The Book Was Better

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I actually really loved the book, it's one of my favorites. However, listening to the narrator ruined the romance and fun of the story. She sounded stern and matronly. To make things worse, even though I gradually got used to the sound of her voice, the story stopped mid way through the book. The whole climax of the novel was just missing. Whats the point if you don't get to enjoy the best part of the novel? No reveal on the killer, no resolution to the romance, nada. Not worth your money on this one. Skip the Audio Version and just go enjoy the book on your own.

Has Tell Me Lies turned you off from other books in this genre?

In the Genre no. However I'm reluctant to buy another Crusie Audible if its told by the same narrator and if it is similarily cut off. I'd prefer to get my money's worth and enjoy a whole book.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Joyce Bean?

As long as it isn't a romance novel sure. She sounds like she'd be better off reading crime related novels or how tos.

Disappointing

Too predictable, too much focus on extraneous characters and the character development was weak. Her other books made me want to meet two main characters. This book did not. finish the book just because Hope springs eternal.

Awful!

I have always enjoyed Jennifer Cruisie's books with the exception of the ones written with Bob Mayer.
I was really looking forward to this new one. It's terrible and I couldn't finish it. I listened to the sample, but couldn't really tell how bad it is from that. It's depressing and none of the characters are worth knowing. I didn't even make it halfway as another reviewer did. I like Joyce Bean too but her reading of this book just makes the character even more whiny and self-absorbed.
I wish Audible would let let me exchange this book for another one of equal value. Amazon has no problem with exchanges. They should add this feature to Audible. It's not like I'm not going to buy more audible books.
